My Experience
For years, I have had extremely dry skin behind my ears and in the inner aspect of my ears. The skin condition is very irritating and after seeing my doctor, he told me that I have seborrhetic dermatitis. The condition causes a lot of skin flaking and the skin appears very dry. He prescribed some topical steroids, but warned of its long term effects of thinning skin.
I used the topical steroid for about two weeks to control the dermatitis and then stopped the steroid treatment to avoid thinning out the skin. To keep the skin hydrated, it was recommended by my dermatologist to use Aquaphor. I had not heard of Aquaphor prior to my dermatologists recommendation. I was put off by the extreme cost of the product. $16 for one tub? Yowsers! My dermatologist had provided me with some samples of the Aquaphor. Using the samples of Aquaphor convinced me that 14 ounce tub was well worth the $16.
Aquaphor is a clear and petroleum jelly-like. It is unscented and quite heavy in nature. Applying the Aquaphor leaves skin greasy and with a sticky feel. It isnt the most pleasant feeling. The Aquaphor also takes a long time to absorb
I would say that applying just a tad bit to my ears takes about a whole hour to an hour and a half to absorb fully. Prior to the full absorption of the Aquaphor, skin is left greasy and sticky. Again, it is not the most pleasant feeling.
I have used Aquaphor for at least three months now. Why would I continue to use a product that leaves my skin greasy and heavy? It is because the results are amazing. The skin behinds my ears no longer feel scaly and rough; my skin is left significantly smoother and softer. It also has helped to control my seborrhetic dermatitis well. There is no cure for seborrhetic dermatitis. But the Aquaphor has helped to dramatically decrease the amount of flaky skin from my ears.
Aquaphor is an uber-moisturizer that will dramatically impact dry skin.
