Having been a manager of a pet store for three years, (I am no longer) I have had the opportunity to use MANY different protein skimmers. Not only using them, but I have also talked to a variety of people that have tried out just about every skimmer on the market today.
The Aquarium Systems SeaClone Protein Skimmer SCPS-100 is actually the protein skimmer hat I have on my tank at home today.
I used to use a protein skimmer that required the separate air pump and wooden airstone. Quite honestly, if you have a very large tank, being over 55 gallons, I suggest on of the afore mentioned. If you are going smaller, I personally have a 20 gal reef tank, the SeaClone is an excellent skimmer that removes a large portion of waste in a quiet, efficient manner.
Some might worry about there being too much current caused by this skimmer, but with this much power it means that much more filtration, and everybody knows that there is no such thing as too much filtration. Like I said, I have tried many skimmers on many sized tanks, everything from a 5 gallon salt tank to a 240 very elaborate reef tank at the pet store.
The SeaClone is easy to clean and very quiet. You do not have to worry about the air pump going bad and becoming super noisy as we all know all air pumps do over time. every customer that I spoke with that had used the SeaClone loved it and used it on all their salt water tanks.
