We stayed at the Argonaut for two days last week. We arrived after a two night stay in Sonoma County with our two children, ages 13 and 8. The room was bright and airy with a nautical feel. A "porthole" window opened to views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. The room was immaculately maintained and decorated in bright blue, white and yellow. The two queen sized beds were perfect for a family of four. Plenty of blankets, pillows and towels were provided. Though expensive at $400 per night, we were happy that the room accommodated the four of us and we had to pay for just one room. The bathroom was marble and tile and Aveda products were the amenities.
This hotel really knows how to cater to children. Upon arrival, the bellman asked my kids if the had their iPods, Nintendos and PSP's. He said he knew they would be heartbroken if they left them behind and reminded them to bring their chargers. He told my son where the local skate spots were and entertained my daughter. When I thanked him, he said that the Argonaut respects that kids are part of their client base.
Complimentary wine is served from 5-6 pm daily in the lobby. The lobby's nautical theme is carried out in the whimsical decorating scheme and includes comfy velvet seating areas and antique wooden deck chairs that must have been salvaged from an old cruise ship. Since the kids loved the lobby so much, we were able to enjoy our wine.
The Argonaut is located at Fisherman's Wharf in close proximity to Ghirardelli Square, the cruise to Alcatraz, bicycle rentals, restaurants, shops and the cable car stop. We will be sure to return next time we are in San Francisco. It was a wonderful experience to stay there.
