Pros: Good price, pretty effective for a natural deodorant, unscented, triclosan
Cons: Availability, not totally unscented, takes a while to be effective
The Bottom Line: This is one of my favorite natural (aluminum-free) deodorants, as it is more effective than many of the others I have tried.

One of the major changes I decided to make in adding a lot of more natural things to my lifestyle was no longer using deodorants that contained aluminum. I had never had luck with non-antiperspirants in the past, but when I had my first baby, I figured it would be the time to make the change, since I wasn't working and I wanted to make my body healthier.
Arm & Hammer Essentials Unscented Natural Deodorant
I found this product at Walmart. I don't remember how much I paid, but I don't think it was as expensive as most natural deodorants (Tom's of Maine, Alba, Nature's Gate, etc). In fact I think it was more or less on par with the price of "average" deodorants, if I remember correctly. It was also really convenient, and perhaps even surprising, to find this deodorant at Walmart. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find it since, so I may have to order online. I fear that maybe it is being discontinued, although the Arm & Hammer Essentials website has this product listed on it. This product is available in "Fresh Scent" in addition to the unscented (I have only tried the unscented).

My Thoughts
I have tried a lot of non-aluminum deodorants and it has been a tough road. I have always had issues with sweating and underarm odor, so I have always relied on antiperspirants like Secret. I remember trying some non-antiperspirants as a teenager and in college and it was a failure. I figured since I was becoming a stay-at-home mom and also trying to make our house a natural household, this would be the time to try a natural deodorant (compared to sweating/smelling in a suit or blouse for work!).
This deodorant looks pretty average. It is in a typical twist-up style container. The deodorant is a translucent color, and it has a smooth consistency. When I put it on, it feels good- not too thick or thin - and I feel like I get a good coating. I have never had underarm irriation and it has never burned when I applied it (and I shave every shower).
This product is unscented, but it does have a scent to it. I personally think the smell is light, and I would say the scent is sort of lemony, maybe a little piney. It is tough to pinpoint but I would say the ingredients give it a citrus smell. The scent fades quickly, and it is not strong. I don't notice a lasting odor and I don't find it overwhelming.
As far as performance, I would say this deodorant does better than all the others I have tried. My guess is the biggest difference being that this has triclosan in it (an antibacterial).
This deodorant does not prevent me from sweating, but I did not expect that it would. It is not an antiperspirant. However, it does control odor. I actually do feel like it keeps the sweating down a little bit, but it could be because of the combined benefits.
As far as controlling odor, this does the best job of any natural deodorant I have tried. Sometimes I do get a little bit of a "funk" by the end of the day, with a slight sweaty odor, but in times where I am doing a lot of physical activity or it is particularly hot, reapplication in the afternoon does help.
Overall
I can't say this deodorant is perfect, but it is one of the best natural deodorant I have tried, and I have probably more than half dozen sitting in my bathroom (deodorant crystal, Tom's of Maine, Alba, Nature's Gate, etc). I rely on this deodorant the most, and it is the most reliable non-aluminum one I have tried over the years.
I will reiterate that it took a while for natural deodorants to work, probably because my body had to adjust. The other natural deodorant I rely on the most is Kiss My Face Liquid Rock in Lavender.
