angela9049's Full Review: Arnold/MTD 22" Lawn Mower Blade #742-0125 #MTD-22
Last year we had to have our Murray Tractor repaired, this included replacing the tractor cutting blade. We called several people who fixed tractors and lawn mowers for a living. Everyone of them quoted a price of $75.00 just to come to our house and look at the tractor to see what needed fixing. The final bill ran into the hundreds and was quite expensive to repair.
This year our walk behind Murray 22 inch lawn mower also needed a new mower blade. When we called the man who fixes these machines, he also quoted a price of $75.00 just to take a look at the mower.
This was way too much for us. After you figure the price of looking at this mower along with the price of replacing the blade, the cost of labor, I figured it would be cheaper to buy a new mower.
We went to Lowes to look for a new mower, the same brand, as I do like the way this one cuts grass. Thankfully the salesman was there to help us. After we told him about our other mower, he suggested that we try to replace the blades ourselves. He said it is very easy to do and it will save us the expense of getting a new mower especially knowing that our mower is still in great shape and cuts the grass with no problems.
I thought why not give it a try and if it doesn't work then I will buy another. We went home, got all the correct information, serial numbers, model numbers from the manual for my Murray lawn mower and brought this with us so I would get the correct blade and make no mistakes. With the help from the same salesman,we purchased the Arnold/MTD 22 inch Lawn Mower Replacement Blade.
Installing the new mower blade could not have been easier. There are complete easy to follow directions on the back of the package along with diagrams that shows step by step installing of the new blade.
First you have to remove the gas from the tank.
Turn the mower on it's side and remove the center bolt holding the old blade and adapter crankshaft. This will keep the blade from moving around.
Next I removed the bolt, washer and nut. I kept each piece in a line in the exact position that they were removed so that when I replaced them they would be put back the same way that they were removed. I used an ordinary socket wrench that fit the bolt perfectly. I need no special tool to do the job.
The new blade has 3 holes in the center where it is to be reattached, these holes are there so that you can position the blade in the exact spot making sure that this blade fits right and that it does not hit the sides of the mower. I used the center hole. I replaced the screw. washer and bolt. I turned the blade a few times to make sure that it was in the correct position.
I turned the mower upright, filled the tank with gas, started the mower and proceeded to cut the grass. The new blade cut perfectly, it not only cut the grass but it also mulched the grass after it was cut. This was extremely helpful as I did not have to scrape the grass from the underside because there was no grass stuck on the top of the mower, the extra mulching cut the grass so small that it went back on the ground.
I was quite pleased with the Arnold Lawn Mower Replacement blades performance. The fact that I did the job myself was even more rewarding not only did I save quite a bit of money, but I saved myself from all the hassle of replacing my still usable mower for a new one all because of a worn out cutting blade.
I would highly recommend this Arnold Replacement Lawn Mower Blade to anyone who likes the satisfaction of doing things themself without having to call an expensive serviceman to do a job that you can do yourself.
