Ped Egg Pedicure Foot File

Pros:Clever configuration. Catches the loose skin
Cons:Needs replacement blades
The Bottom Line: Clever design. Catches the shavings

I have short, squat hands with fingernails that just don't grow I also do a lot of gardening so I just can't maintain great fingernails. I do however, take care of my feet.  I go for fairly regular pedicures as a treat.

This starts adding up though so when I saw the Ped Egg on TV it did catch my attention. I see these infomercials all the time so I was interested but skeptical. It was one of those typical call now and get this , that and the next thing free for only $19.99 plus exorbitant shipping. I still listened to the whole song and dance.

According to the ad the original Ped Egg is the revolutionary foot file that you see nationally advertised on TV. This enhanced professional version has been precision engineered with over 135 stainless steel micro files to gently remove calluses and dead skin to give your feet the incredible baby soft look and feel that everybody loves. It is so gentle the it won’t burst a balloon, safe to the touch, comfortable ergonomic design, collects shavings and easy disposal with no mess.

It is a grater design but comes inside an egg shape that catches all the skin filings. So there  is less mess. It's eEasy to hold and fits in the palm of your hand. Well, I thought sounds good but....I just couldn't bring myself to actually get involved with it figuring I'd end up having to send it back. It would need replacement parts when your grater blade got dull. Shipping was $7.95 too much. I decided to pass on it.

Then I was in CVS and there was the Ped Egg for only $10.00, well $9.97. For that price and the fact I could bring it back if I saved my receipt I decided to live on the edge and give it a whirl.

The package promises that Ped Egg will Gently remove calloused, dry skin Warning:Over use can cause irritation

The Ped Egg is a plastic egg designed to fit comfortably in your hand. It has over 135 stainless steel precision micro files to file off your hard calloused heel and toe skin. The Ped Egg comes with two emery boards that attach to the top. These are meant to smooth out the residual skin left after you remove the callouses.

Before using Ped Egg you insert the stainless steel blade by just snapping it into the top part of the Ped Egg. It's fairly simple and a clever varation on a the plain callous removal devices I've seen. Someone built a better mousetrap.

To use your Ped Egg you start at the thickest area of dead skin and slowly go back and forth lengthwise. Proceed slowly and carefully, do not overdue. When done you open the egg and drop the skin shavings into the garbage. The egg is made to catch this, a great idea. This all worked well and my heels and toes were definitely smoother with no clean up issues.

You will, however, need replacement blades. You can purchase refills at http://www.pedeggreorder.com/ or by calling 1-800-5508356 for an automated order placement.  New blades are 3 for $9.99 (plus $4.99 sh) or $9.99 at Walgreen's and the emery boards or pads are 10 @ $7.49. (sh free). The Ped Egg is obviously cheaper then a pedicure, the cheapest pediciure I've found is $20.00 plus your tip. So, it does save you money in the long run but other callous removers I've used neede no replacement parts and were fairly inexpensive to begin with.

You can also purchase the Ped Egg in black for men. Hubby wasn't interested.

As an after pedicure moisturizer Ped Egg suggests Miracle foot cream for $9.99.  I used Mary Kay Night Emollient Cream as a moisturizer after each treatment. It's a very thick, rich cream and worked well. With repeated Pedi treatments you definately see softer smoother heels and toes. I haven't had to buy replacement blades as yet even though I've been using Ped Egg at leasat once or twice a week.   I wear flip flops most of the year so I was pleased with the over all results. No more ugly callused heels no matter how much my feet are exposed to the weather. Ped Egg was easy to use but I have other grater like devices that are just as simple to use. Ped Egg did a good job so I can't fault it but I hate the idea of having to spend more money for new blades when the time comes.

All in all I feel it's a good product. It does a very nice job without much work on your part. It saves you money on Pedicures. You could buy it and use it to prolong the time between pedicures. It would make a good gift/stocking stuffer. I would give it a strong 8 out of 10.
