Asher's Sugar-Free Peanut Butter Truffle Bar - Delicious, but very high in fat.

Pros:Both the chocolate and the peanut butter are delicious.
Cons:Way too high in fat and calories.
The Bottom Line: It's nice to be able to enjoy a sugar-free chocolate/peanut butter treat - but I wouldn't eat this one too often.
Chocolate and peanut butter. A heavenly combination. I thought when I gave up eating sugary snacks, that my days of enjoying this combination were over. But I was wrong! As it turns out, there are several companies that make sugar-free chocolate/peanut butter cups and bars. Some are better than others. Asher's makes one of the best!
They call it their Sugar Free Peanut Butter Truffle Bar. Each bar is 1.65 oz. and breaks easily into four separate rectangular sections. I usually eat half the bar at once. It's sweet, rich, creamy, delicious, and fully satisfying.
Sadly, while this treat is delicious, it's neither low fat, nor low calorie. You see, sugar-free doesn't always equate to "diet food". Certainly, in this case, it does not. Each bar contains 220 calories, 18g of fat (yikes!!), and 40mg of sodium. While there are 0g of sugar, there are 20g of sugar alcohol. What all of this says to me is that this chocolate bar should be treated as an occasional treat, not an everyday occurrence.
The ingredients: Milk Chocolate Flavored Sugar Free Coating (Maltitol, Cocoa Butter, Chocolate Liquor, Calcium Caseinate, Milk Fat, Soya Lecithin, Natural and Artificial Flavor), Peanut Butter (Peanuts, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Salt), Sugar Free White Coating (Maltitol, Cocoa Butter, Calcium Carbonate, Milk fat, Polydextrose, Calcium Caseinate, Soya Lecithin, Natural and Artifical Flavors), Sorbitol, Fractionated, Partly Hydrogenated Vegetable fat.
Consumption of Maltitol and Sorbitol can cause dietary distress, so be sure to start out in very small doses until you're certain your system can handle it. (I've known many a person to gobble this stuff down only to have a bad tummy ache later). As for me, I can eat half a bar at one time with no problem, but I wouldn't dare eat more than that.
This bar is truly delicious. The milk chocolate is sweet, but not overly so, and doesn't leave an after-taste as some other sugar-free chocolates do. The peanut butter is also tasty, and is in the right proportion to the chocolate. Overall, a delicious treat to be enjoyed - but not every day!
