For Over-pronators there is no better long distance shoe

I have been a serious runner now for over 10 years. I started in high school on the cross country team, and realized that long distance running was definitely for me. I enjoyed going out on the road or the trail and just running for long periods of time.
Since I came to that realization I have tried a host of different running shoes. I have tried Nike's, and Saucony's and Adidas and Asics. Using Nike Air Max's I trained for the New York City Marathon. I ran my butt off... and my knee as well. I got such a terrible case of runner's knee (tendenitis in the knee) that I was put on crutches. Little did I know that one of the main reasons for my injury was shoes that were not accommodating my over-pronation.
The next spring I trained for the Paris Marathon, this time using Nike Air Pegasus. One month before the marathon I went to see the doctor at the University I was attending, thinking that I had shin splints. I thought that all I needed was a little free University physical therapy, and the doctor would just prescribe that for me. WRONG. I had run my leg into a severe stress fracture. To the point that the doctor threatened me that if I continued to run I would break my leg. Once again a marathon I had trained so hard to run in- and could not run it.
The next marathon that I decided to train for was the Big Sur Marathon in California. (Ok I know you are thinking ... so who is dumb enough to train for all these marathons and never get to run them... but I was determined that I was going to run a marathon, no matter what). This time I was not going to et an injury stop me. I made appointments with knee specialists and physical therapists. I read every training manual that I could find on training for a marathon. I picked a training schedule that slowly ramped up and promised an even training routine to avoid injuries. And then I found out about "motion control" shoes. It turned out that I am a MAJOR over pronator. (Meaning I put more pressure on the inside of my foot then the outside). My over-pronation was causing my tendenitis and the stress fractures. What I needed was the best narrows motion control shoes that I could find.
So after years of injuries, and years of trying different shoes, I finally got it right! I trained and ran with the Asics GT 2040. I had a wonderful training experience and ran a very respectable marathon, coming in in the top third of all the runners. So I did not win, and I did not come in the top 100, but my goal was simply to run in the marathon and finish it. I strongly recommend the Asics GT 2040 if you have narrow feet. run long distances and over pronate. You just can't find a better shoe that will carry you the distance and prevent injuries.
