iscream22's Full Review: Astro-Creep 2000: Songs of Love, Destruction and O...
White Zombie was a fantastic metal band. While the bandmembers may not have gotten along with each other all that well (hence their breakup) their music was original, creative, and not like any other band before them. White Zombies best album is Astro Creep 2000. Their earlier stuff was loud punky type metal, but their songs were scrambled, you could barely understand or hear Rob Zombies voice and they were hard to find. La Sexorcisto came out in 1992 and White Zombie became much more known in mainstream circles and they even had a hit "Thunder Kiss 65" which even got MTV play. But with Astro Creep 2000 the band put all their amazing rocking on display and they became well known. Astro Creep 2000 is different from the majority of other metal bands in that their sound was a very sonic spacey sound that had tons of distortion, was often played at fast tempos, and they had samples from many classic horror films mixed in their songs with the music. Astro Creep 2000 is an all around great album in that it pumps you up and the sheer energy of the band with Rob Zombies shrieking nasally vocals was amazing. Many songs are science fiction and horror oriented but the riffs and sound of Robs vocals changed from song to song. Sometimes Rob would sing with the groovin distortiony guitair blasting at full speed, and sometimes the band would slow down almost to a sludgy sounding pace with Rob slowly screaming his lyrics in measured deep bassy screams. But the main great thing with White Zombie and Astro Creep 2000 in particular is how well Robs vocals compliment the sound of the band playing. The album spawned a few hits which made it onto mainstream radio/MTV including: More Human Than Human, Electric Head pt 2 (The Ecstasy), and Super Charger Heaven. If you love headbanging metal, horror movies, and a little creativity with your metal, Astro Creep 2000 is a fantastic album to pick up. Rob Zombie continued onto a successful solo career but the only solo album that still has a White Zombie type style to it was "Hellbilly Deluxe", I was not impressed with his other solo efforts, especially the painfully bad "Educated Horses".
All in All, Astro Creep 2000 is a awesome, fast, sludgy, riffy album that still holds up, I definately reccomend this album to people who love hard rock, metal, and horror films.
