I watched this movie last night for the first time. I am so glad I didn't miss it. The ASTRONAUT'S WIFE stars Johhny Depp as Spencer and Charlize Theron as Jillian.
If you like a movie that keeps you on your toes until the end, this is the one to watch. I really liked it except some of the scenes were shot at funny angles. Overall though I really liked this movie.
Spencer and Jillian are married. Spencer is an astronaut. Jillian is a second grade teacher. Anyhow, she is in class and gets a phone call. It is her husband calling her from space. WOW. He is the perfect man. So thoughtful and considerate. You can tell they are the perfect couple.
Next we find Jillian and her sister Nan at Jillian's house. Nan is saying she wishes she could find a man like Spencer. Jillian is slicing something with a knife and all of a sudden, she CUTS herself. WHY?? Be- cause she just saw her hubby's face on t.v. and knows something bad happened. Then someone knocks on the door. It is a man from NASA. He asks her to come with him.
Now we are at NASA. There is one other wife there. Her husband is in space with Spencer. Anyhow, a man tells them that each womans husband is okay. They had been outside of the space craft fixing something and all of a sudden there was an EXPLOSION. NASA lost contact with the astronauts for 2 minutes. They are okay though, he assures the women.
Next we are in the hospital and Spencer is sleeping. Although NASA lost contact with the astronauts for 2 minutes, the doctor reassures Jillian that her husband suffered no brain damage from those 2 minutes in space.
The other wife is talking to a doctor. Next we find that Spencer has woken up. He is OKAY. But the other astronaut is not doing so good. He is older and his heart took a lot of strain from those 2 minutes. But he is alive.
Jillian takes Spencer home and all is well. The only thing is that Spencer and the other Astronaut will not talk about those 2 minutes.
At an awards ceremony, Spencer tells Jillian he is quitting NASA. They are moving to New York because he was offered a good job as an executive with {I FORGET WHO}.
Now we find ourselves at a bar. The other astronaut and his wife are talking and all of a sudden, she SLAPS him across the face. He stands up and starts walking. There is blood coming out of his mouth or nose, im not sure. Then he falls to the floor and next thing we know, he's dead.
Nasa calls it a massive heart attack.
So now we are at the WAKE, I GUESS, and Jillian goes to check on the widow. She tells Jillian that it is THEIR fault. and POINTS to a radio.
HMMMMM.
Jillian covers her up and goes back out into the living room. Next thing I know, someone is screaming. Jillian RUNS back the hall and there is the widow, in a tub full of water, clutching the same radio. HMMMMMM
Now we are in New York and Jillian and Spencer are at a party. She gets drunk. Jillian asks Spencer about those 2 minutes. Let's go for a walk. The are still in that building and he starts to tell her how it felt those 2 minutes. Meanwhile he is trying to get SOME. He never did tell her about those 2 minutes. Instead he ends up making love to her, but not very nicely, I must say. She still does not suspect anything.
A couple weeks go by and Jillian is pregnant with twins. Out of the blue, she is at a baby store and the same man from NASA who knocked on her door, walks up to her. He had been fired from NASA. He tries to tell Jillian what is going on but she will not listen. She tells her sister Nan about this and asks her not to tell Spencer. Guess what? She told him. Jillian is getting more suspicious, mainly because of how Spencer has been acting.
She calls the man from NASA and asks him to meet her somewhere. Well, she gets there and just as she is about to walk up the steps to him, she hears her husbands voice. It doesn't show it in the movie but Spencer KILLED the man from NASA.
So she goes in to the school one day and there is a letter with a key in her mailbox. It is from the man from NASA. She goes to his room and there is a video tape for her. She goes home and finds out some very disturbing things. Her husband is not who he seems. There was alien contact during those 2 minutes in outer space.
Nows when the movie really gets better.
Jillian gets some abortion pills but Spencer is not Spencer so he gets home and stops her. Then she ends up falling down the steps. Nope she did not lose the babies.
While she is in the hospital, she has a flashback. {OR FLASH FORWARD, I SHOULD SAY} She sees Spencer murder her sister. He did.
She is released from the hospital but can't handle knowing that her husband is an alien and so are her babies. OR ARE THEY?????????????????
She finally ends up at home and starts running water in the sink. Also in the sink is the radio he would always listen to. She had turned on the upstairs water also. Spencer comes home and she is sitting on a stool near the sink. Water is on the floor. The HATED radio is in the sink and plugged in the wall. The cord is in her hand. She is going to fry herself like the other ASTRONAUTS wife did. HMMMMMMM.
All of a sudden water comes pouring down from upstairs. I didn't see her turn on the upstairs faucets.
Now Spencer is wet also. He is not HAPPY either. He finally admits to being an alien. These aliens had waited forever for the perfect people to be a means of getting to earth. 2 people who are above reproach. Model citizens so no one would suspect anything.
He then puts his MIND into it and makes the stool move. He's trying to unplug the cord. So Jillian connects the ends and her HUSBAND IS DEAD.
Now we are at the end of the movie. I will not say how it ends, but this is a MUST SEE movie. I do not recommend for children under 13. Some of the scenes could be disturbing. Use your judgement.
