| Gizzykat's Full Review: Atkins Diet Advantage Bar |
The Atkins Diet Advantage bars are a great supplement for someone on the Atkin's Diet or any low carb diet. The Atkins Diet Advantage bars are developed with this type of dieter in mind, so you know when you pick up these bars they are going to be within your carbohydrate restriction.
The Nutritional Rundown: (from the package)
Serving size, 1 bar (60)g-2.11 oz
Amount per serving:
Calories 250, Fat Cal 121, Total Fat 13 g (20%DV), Sat. Fat 8g (40% DV), Cholest. 5mg (2%DV), Vitamin A (60% DV), Calcium (69%DV), Zinc (60% DV), Iodine (60%DV), Phosphorus (23% DV), Magnesium (38%DV), Vitamin D-3 (60%DV), Vitamin B-1 (60%DV), Folic Acid (60%DV), Vitamin B-2 (60%DV), Vitamin B-6 (60%DV), Vitamin B-12 (60% DV), Vitamin E (60%DV), Chromium (50 mcg), Niacin (60%DV), Biotin (60%DV), Panothenic Acid (60%DV), Copper (60%DV). Percent Daily Values (DV) are based on a 2,000 calorie diet.
As you can see the bars are rich in vitamins and minerals. The fat values are high, but this is part of the diet itself. Fat is an appetite suppressant, therefore on this diet you don't really count fat grams. The grams you want to look at are the carb grams.
The Taste:
The outer layer of the bars are covered in a waxy chocolate substitute. It's still tasty though, especially when you can't eat any carbohydrates and you are salivating for a fix. Beware, this layer melts and melts fast. The inner part of the bar is an almost "cake-like" filling. The flavor I chose for this review is Chocolate Coconut. There really isn't much of a coconut flavor. It's more of a very sweet, rich, vanilla flavor. It's not bad, though.
The Texture:
As I said the outer layer is waxy and melts very quickly, causing it to get on your fingers. The inside is very crumbly and upon chewing it's very thick. I can't really say it's the texture of cake, per se, however it's not really a bar in the sense of the word. It's hard to get down, if you are going to purchase these make sure you eat them with a beverage. They'll take all the moisture off your tongue with them.
In Conclusion:
It's not bad. It's not cheesecake or anything but as Nutritional bars go, they are pretty good. I like the Chocolate Coconut, but it's much too sweet for my palate. I prefer the Chocolate Peanut Butter, and my favorite, the Chocolate Raspberry. These are sweet enough to cure the craving without leaving you sick.
One thing should be noted and that is all the bars may contain traces of various nuts. If you are allergic to nuts, do NOT eat these bars.
