| sgersh's Full Review: Atkins Diet Shake Mix |
If your idea of a satisfying shake is one that is chalky, chunky and thin, and leaves an awful aftertaste in your mouth, you'll love the Atkins Diet Shakes. If your taste buds still function, you'll probably want to look elsewhere.
I've tried two flavors, the chocolate and the cappucino. Despite paying over $20(!) for the container of cappucino, it was so undrinkable that I tossed it out. I did manage to choke down the entire container of chocolate during one particularly tough week on the diet.
Mixing the shakes is such an ordeal -- the instructions say to add water to the mix and stir or place it in a shaker. The only way I could adequately mix the shakes was in a blender -- mere human powered mixing was not sufficient to blend the mixture.
The aftertaste stays with you for a good long time. The artificial sweetener is particularly cloying and cuts through any balance the chocolate (or coffee) flavorings might impart.
The shakes are really not satisfying, they're too hard to mix, and they cost an incredible amount. If you're looking for a good shake, there is a brand selling under the name of Pure Protein (if you have a Trader Joe's near you, they retail for $1.79), and I enjoy both the chocolate and vanilla flavors.
