I love chocolate and have horrible sweet cravings every now and again. In finally losing some weight and wanting to keep it off, I have been re-visiting healthier (for me) eating habits. This means watching my Carb intake. I feel guilty after eating chocolate, it's so fattening, but sometimes I just can't help myself - it tastes and feels so good.

I had tried a few of Atkins candy bar type foods and really enjoyed them. I had gotten away from keeping a stash of these in my desk drawer because, truthfully, I can only get them at Walmart and most of the time they are out of stock. Having read reviews about their Peanut Butter Cups and having to try them, I of course looked this weekend at my local Walmart - what a suprise, the box was empty. Sitting next to the empty box were Atkins Endulge Caramel Nut Chews though, for a mere $.96.

What Are Atkins Endulge Caramel Nut Chews?

They are, in design, to be like a mini-Snickers type candy. Well I certainly knew, in advance, that these would be like Snickers, but not taste quite the same. Having tasted other Atkins chocolate products I had an idea of the difference. When you look at a Atkins Endulge Caramel Nut Chew it is about 1/3 the size of a Snickers and not as heavy or dense feeling. Inside everything was more "compact" a layer of nuts that looked pasted together with a wedge of what was once caramel.

Taste

I was only going for a taste that would be ok or not too bad. To me, the Atkins Endulge Caramel Nut Chews tasted like rubber. Thick rubber.

You know how a Snickers has that caramel that is gooey and melts in your mouth? Atkins Endulge Caramel Nut Chews caramel was solid - it really reminded me more of a frozen Snickers - you know when you go to eat it after it's been frozen or refridgerated and it has that hard, dense kind of taste? That's what this product was to me, a freezed over, then defrosted, not so good tasting candy bar substitute.

What It's Got In It ...

The good news, should you like the taste, is that the Atkins Endulge Caramel Nut Chew is relatively good for you, carbohydrate wise. If I had remotely liked the taste, I would have gladly purchased more. In my case, I'll stick to the other Atkins chocolate products I do like, and keep my eye out for those Peanut Butter Cups!

It really does only have 2 grams of carbs (as stated on the label) - in the case of Atkins products (you gather this from reading all of his publications, etc) that the Sugar Alcohol (maltitol), is subtracted from the total carbs (at least that's what I gathered when I asked an Atkins die hard that I work with). This ingredient can give digestive problems if you overeat these - so stay within the recommended daily allotment.
