| meghanrn's Full Review: Atkins Endulge Peanut Butter Cups |
For anyone with a sweet-tooth who is struggling to survive the Atkins Lifestyle, Endulge Peanut Butter Cups are a savior. Before I found the Endulge line I would cheat on a regular basis simply because I did not have enough willpower to calm my sweet-tooth.
When I first looked at the label I was a little confused. The front says that there are 2g of Carbs per serving then on the reverse side you see that there are 17 carbs- more than most Atkins Dieters would eat in a day. I went to the Atkins website at atkinscenter.com and found the definition of "impact carbs" these are carbs that do not impact your blood sugar and are indigestible by the body so it is not necessary to count these carbs. With only two grams of impact carbs these are a welcome alternative.
As for the taste I have no complaints whatsoever. I used to regularly eat Recees peanut butter cups, and honestly I have to say that I cannot taste the difference. My husband swears that he can tell the difference, but he doesn't like chocolate anyway so he doesn't count. I have never had a cup that didn't taste great. I have noticed a little inconsistancy with the amount of peanut butter filling from one to the other, but that just means more chocolate- that can't be all that bad.
If anyone has ever tasted any other brands of "Low Carbohydrate candy bars you cannot deny that there is a definite difference. Most other brands I couldn't gag down even if I hadn't eaten sugar in a month. With the Atkins Endulge bars I have to try very hard to limit myself to one a day, I could easily eat about 4 in a sitting.
I have found a few downsides to the Endulge bars. The first is that they make me extremely gassy. The sugar alcohols have a laxative affect so if you eat 2 or 3 don't get too far from a bathroom, but if you eat one a day- which is what is recommended that I doubt you will have any problems. The only other downside I see is that they are almost double the price of Recees. They cost .96 cents at wal-mart- higher at other stores, compared to .50 of regular candy.
Bottom line, I buy about 30 of them a month so you can tell how highly I think of them. Personally I think that they are the only thing that enables me to adhere to the Atkins Lifestyle without going AWOL on a bag of Oreos once a week.
It is a great alternative to anyone who is trying to cut carbs from their diet.
