~ My Experience - How Do They Taste?
First I must tell you that after having tried Atkins Morning Start Cinnamon Bun Breakfast Bar, I actually had low expectations for the Apple Crisp bars. The Cinnamon Bun bars were not that great.
Atkins Morning Start Apple Crisp Breakfast Bars were a VERY pleasant surprise! Unwrapping the bar I found it was covered with a yogurt-like white coating. I could detect a faint apple smell with protein undertones.
Biting into the bar, I could immediately see why they called these Apple CRISP. There is a delightful, crispy texture not unlike Rice Crispy bars. Not quite as sticky though. The soy nuggets give these bars a hearty, chewy, and slightly crispy texture. I could also taste pieces of dried apple that added even more chewiness. The white coating was tasty and didn't melt in my hands. (I wasn't eating this in extremely hot weather, however.)
The apple taste was quite evident and I liked it a lot! Yes, there was a faint "protein" taste, but less than in many other protein-based bars. I chomped down the whole bar with glee and satisfaction. Yummy!
Now if you're really hungry, Atkins Morning Start Apple Crisp Breakfast Bars aren't going to fill you up. Unless you eat very little for breakfast, I wouldn't consider these a meal replacement. They do make a great snack though.
As for the taste, my husband even liked these! And that's saying a lot because he simply will NOT eat most protein-based bars.
~ Final Thoughts
Atkins Morning Start Apple Crisp Breakfast Bars are very good, especially if you're trying to control your carbohydrate intake. If you tried Atkins Cinnamon Bun bars and didn't like them, don't let that stop you from trying these Apple Crisp bars. They are nothing like the Cinnamon Bun bars. The texture is hearty with a nice chewy-crunchiness. The apple flavor is quite good. They don't fill me up enough for a complete meal replacement, but they do make a great snack, especially for on-the-go.
My grocery store carries these in the health food section. Or you can find them online at www.atkinscenter.com for about $6.99 for a box of five bars.
