~ My Experience
Cinnamon buns are one of my all time weaknesses, and I was really hoping to get some serious cinnamon bun satisfaction from Atkins Morning Start Creamy Cinnamon Bun Breakfast Bars. On the box are pictured a couple of cinnamon buns with white frosting that made my mouth water. Of course I could hardly take my eyes off the picture of the cinnamon buns to see the picture of the actual breakfast bar itself, which of course looked nothing like a cinnamon bun.
I opened one of the individually wrapped bars, and saw that it was rectangular shaped and coated with a white coating. The bar was on the small side, but not ridiculously small.
I sniffed it, and was disappointed with the initial smell, but not repulsed. It smelled sort of "proteiny" with a faint cinnamon-like scent.
Biting into the bar, I found the texture on the smooth side, yet dense. It wasn't what I would call chewy either. There was no crunchiness. The coating didn't melt in my hand.
The taste was nothing like a cinnamon bun. If I tried real hard I could detect something akin to a cinnamon flavor, but mostly it tasted like a basic protein bar. On the other hand, I didn't find the taste offensive, and I finished the bar. The last bite actually tasted pretty decent.
I found the Atkins Morning Start Creamy Cinnamon Bun Breakfast Bars to be only mildly filling. If I'm really hungry, one of these bars will not fill me up. They make an okay snack, though.
I've eaten four of the five bars, and I believe I'm actually becoming somewhat fond of them. There is nothing special about the taste or texture though, and if you're expecting a real cinnamon bun experience, forget it.
~ Final Thoughts
If you're following the Atkins Diet or just trying to control your carbs, these bars make a convenient snack. They do have a kind of creamy texture, and the taste is okay if you are used to eating protein bars - in fact it seems the taste is starting to appeal to me more after I've eaten a few of them. But they don't fill me up enough to work as a meal replacement.
