Pros: * Very nimble for a fat ski * Excellent float in Pow
Cons: * For me, 192 felt too long and 184 felt a bit short
2002 was a wild year for me in terms of Skiing. In the past I usually have had a single pair of skis for 5-6 years, but for strange reasons I actaully ended up skiing three different skis in 2003 season: Salomon Scream 10 Pilot, Atomic Sugar Daddy, and the Atomic REX.
The REX was BY FAR the best compromise out of all the Skis I owned or demoed last year. They are incredibly nimble for a fatter ski. I demoed the K2 AK Launcher and owned the Sugar Daddys for a short period - neither of these skis had any chance of skiing even mild moguls. The K2s and the Sugar Daddys could carve on groomers, but did not handle anything but soft snow well.
The REXs were much different. They are so light and so stiff that I can whip them around in the trees/moguls/steeps. My mogul skiing technique had to change a bit, but it is still as much fun and I still look as good :)
In the pow the REXs are really super. They are not as fat as the Sugars or the Launchers, but you will never feel it. The 84 cm waist is more than enough to provide a HUGE improvement in pow over 70-75 cm waist skis. I got hooked on fat skis with the launchers and the Daddys - and when going to the REXs I feared I would be losing some deep performance - but I didnt.
So....the REX really is the best performer all around. They have the hard snow performance of the Scream Pilots and the deep/crud performance of the Launchers/Daddys.
You really cant go wrong.
