I was unsure about moving to such a wide-waisted powder ski at first, but knew it was a necessary evil to fully enjoy the deep Utah powder I had migrated to. As an East Coast skier, the concept of fat skis was fairly foreign and I just wasn't sure if they would be too much to handle. Now, I regret having any doubts, after having been on these skis for some knee to hip deep powder days, I'm in love. I opted for the 163cm length, as a 5'7", 140 pound female advanced skier. Though 173cm sugar daddies probably would have worked well, I always opt for shorter skis these days if there is nothing in between that general range, to save from having to muscle around too much ski. I'd rather ride freely and last the entire day, and I'm not at all disappointed when I click in. For a lighter or intermediate level skier, as well as an advanced junior skier, the 153 or 163 lengths would be a great introduction to fatter skis and powder skiing, and there's a lot of ski left to power as they improve.
With tip-waist-tail demensions of 126/99/116, the Atomic Sugar Daddy provides a wide platform for optimal float in deep powder. They're also fast and can carve well on hard pack and crud snow. With Atomic's integrated binding platform, I have the R:412 bindings mounted, which are simple to adjust to other boot sole lengths so my friends can ride them easily and get converted to fat ski heaven.
In addition, the average to larger size males (around 6 feet, 175lbs and up) I know who also ride the Sugar Daddy in longer lengths love them for their reliability to produce a solid and smooth ride. The brother ski, the Atomic Pimp Daddy also is a favorite among aggressive skiers.
