Good absorbancy but crinkly and no wing padding

Pros:Very economical, good strong tapes and an easy to read wetness indicator
Cons:Not very absorbant, no padding in the wings and loud outer plastic.
The Bottom Line: If you are seeking an inexpensive diaper for use for someone who stays home and can be changed easily and often-check this diaper out.
Attends Briefs 9 are a good value for someone with medium to heavy or feacal incontinence especially those less active and less concerned about leaks. Do not confuse these with the retail Attends with 6 tapes and a waistband (as those are more comfortable and more absorbent-but more expensive).

This diaper is pretty average when it comes to absorbency. It is slightly more absorbent than other bulk buy adult diapers available (Like Kendalls or First Choice), but no where near as absorbent as premium diapers. It doesn't come close to the the huge capacity of a Molicare, but it is 1/4 the price of a Molicare! The diaper has a pretty standard amount of absorbant padding down the center of the brief in what I would call an hour glass shape. The diaper traps wetness well, and keeps the skin dry. There is no padding into the wings on either end of the diaper which means side sleepers will have leaks regardless of how much they void at a time (unless they are very light wetters--in which case a diaper is probably overkill). One of the best features of this diaper is it's wetness indicator. This brief (unlike the newly redesigned Attends with Waistband) has wetness lines down the center of the brief. These lines change from a light yellowish color to a dark blue when they get wet. As such, it is very easy to see how wet the diaper is. The new Attends briefs with waistband have a wetness indicator that is hard to see when dry, and dissappears completely when wet. This is dumb! As you now are looking for the absence of something versus the presence of a blue line--which is obviously much easier to spot. Perhaps Attends will get their brains back in order and put this wetness indicator in all their briefs!
This diaper is not as bulky a diaper as the Molicare, and about as bulky as a Depend Brief or any other store brand diaper. As there is no padding in the wings, it is easier to hide under close fitting clothes. The padding is what I would call somewhat hour glass shaped--it is not just a straight down the middle rectangle, but also doesn't extend into the wings in a T shape either.
The tapes on this diaper are actually pretty good. They stick well but as the outer plastic is somewhat thin and shiny, they stick so well that refastening them sometimes results in tearing of the plastic. You won't have any problems with these tapes popping off/undone. Having only 4 tapes (2 on each side) means that getting a good fit is not as easy as with a diaper with 6 tapes. Under normal circumstances the bottom tapes help keep the diaper snug around the legs, and the top tapes keep the waist snug. A diaper with tapes in the middle helps keep the diaper snug throughout the center portion of the diaper which helps reduce the crinkling noise from the plastic, and also helps stop leaks at night when sleeping on one's side. It is difficult to pull this diaper up and down as there is no waistband so this diaper doesn't work well for those with partial continence who wish to use the toilet on occasion.
The stay dry lining is much more comfortable than the "Classic Style" Attends 10 Briefs-soft to the touch and cloth like. My skin stays dry even when the diaper is saturated as the lining does a good job of preventing wetness from coming out of the diaper, and it does absorb sweat as well.
Hiding these diapers is fairly easy as they are not very thick. They are white in color (medium) or blue (large) and have white tapes with "Attends" printed on them so if they ever peek out of your pants, they won't look like to much like a diaper (the large will stand out more). As for the bulk, wearing thin pants or short shorts while in this diaper is a little easier as the bulk is somewhat less than the Attends 10 absorbancy - they are no where near as bulky as a Molicare. The diaper does not have a cloth cover over the plastic so if too much of the diaper in visible, it will be more obvious you are wearing a diaper verses underwear. Size Large are blue in color and as such look less like underwear. Also the plastic is a little shiny, so it stands out more as plastic.
The outer plastic backing is pretty noisy as far as adult diapers go. They are no where near as quiet as the Tena/Promise cloth covered diapers, and are possibly more noisy than Depends! I often notice the tell tale diaper crinkling while wearing them, especially if I've had one on a while, then it crinkles more. Changing these in a public restroom will cause the plastic to crinkle loudly. This diaper is not easy to change quietly in a public restroom. So far, this is the loudest Attends brand diaper I've tried.
Attends 9 are some of the most economical diapers you will find. www.homecaredelivered.com sells a case of 96 mediums for $54.95 which is 57 cents per diaper. When you compare this to Molicares, Molicares are $1.43 per diaper. So you can see, these are much cheaper! Attends with Waistband are 80 cents per diaper.
Attends 9 come in the following sizes/quantities:
Size Prod code QTY Packaging
Medium (32"-44") BR0920 96 4/24
Large (45"-58") BR0930 72 4/18
Ex.Large(58"-63") BR0940 72 4/18
I used to wear a medium Attends, while I must wear a Large Promise/Tena/Molicare because of their fit. Attends recently changed the cut of their diapers and now the mediums fit more like the rest of the industries medium, so I must now wear a Regular or Large (My waist is 36" and hips 38"). FYI - Attends 9 is not made in a "Regular" size like some of their other versions.
One last note is that these diapers are not sold in drug stores. These diapers continue to "survive" well because many nursing homes etc use them. If you want to try them, check out your local medical supply stores or hospital equipment suppliers, or go online and buy them from one of the many online Incontinence retailers like HDIS.com, DMPONLINE.com or ISXPRS.com
You might want to try these out for home use only as they really are rather crinkly and the absorbancy is best for situations where changing can be done as needed. I think you'll find them comfortable and economical. When you know you need a diaper for a LONG time, check out the review of Molicares or Abenas as these diapers are the best ones available in the USA, but aren't cheap!
