I got my first CDM4000 through my job and was a little disappointed that I was not chosen to receive a StarTac model, but after having it for a while now, I am quite pleased with its performance and features.
My service is with Verizon (formerly Bell Atlantic, which is probably where the BA comes from in the name of the phone). Their service is good, actually quite a bit better in my local area (Northern NJ) than ATT used to be.
The phone is pretty easy to operate, and the four way button right in the middle of the phone puts most functions at easy access with little need to look around for things.
The one big downside to this phone is its lack of being able to program the pound or star keys into numbers in memory. This really comes in handy when accessing voicemail that requires that you hit either one of those keys for access. Instead, you have to manually press those keys.
There is a way to program a secondary number, like a pin for accessing messages, but it's worthless to do so without the ability to program a pound or star, and a pause. This is one area where my previous Nokia phone wins out.
Standard battery life is good while in digital mode, and unless you use it a lot, you'll probably only charge it once every 4-5 days.
I liked it enough that I ended up buying one when my wife's contract ran out on her ATT phone. It cost only $29.99 with the service contract, so it's a pretty good deal for the money.
It's not tri-mode, so it isn't "web" enabled, but I am still not sold on the value of a phone that connects to the web. Perhaps movie times, stock quotes, sports scores would be nice to have, but I could live without the hefty price tag on those types of phones for a feature I will rarely use.
By the way, as a safety recommendation, I strongly recommend that you invest in the earpiece microphone combo for relatively hands free use. It's only 15 dollars and is a much safer alternative to holding your phone to your ear while on the highway.
