| blidside's Full Review: Audiovox CDM8000XL Cell Phone |
Just stopped by the Alltel booth at the mall (Citrus Park to be exact) to see what I could use to replace my cira '91 brick that I was lugging around in my pocket. My old phone was BAD, I'll say it out front just so you all know. It was TERRIBLE, it was bigger than the cordless phone I have in my house, and weighed about 1.5 pounds, I'm not joking.
Anyways, on to the Audiovox 8000xl.
What a great phone.
Visually it's quite pleasing.
It's small and light (not sure of the exact specs, but just look at it if you get the chance). I'm able to carry it around in my pocket and not even notice it. The front of it is a slightly matte silver finish (plastic of course), and the back/battery is black. Navigation of the menus is simple as can be with the 5-way analog stick. Pushing left, up, right, down or in accesses every fuction on the phone. Making it insanely easy to pick out a number from the address book while busy, or check your voice mail.
The display on the phone is BIG; 5 lines down and 14 characters across. The screen and the keys are backlit with the standard green.
Functions include scratch pad, melody maker (ringer comp), 100 name/number phone book, timers, last 10 call log, and a more detailed call log based on sent, recieved, and missed. The 8000xl is also datacapable, and can be used to access the internet. I've not noticed the 'web' capabilities listed on the web, but they are DEFINATELY there.
Another nice perk is the built in vibrate alert. No extra, heavier battery is needed *cough* nokia *cough*, and it can be easily switched on and off by holding the * key.
Battery life is very good, 115 min talk (almost two hours), and 140 hrs standby.
In the end, I dig it, it's a groovin' phone. Can't think of any real downsides to it, besides the mic being on the bottom end of the phone, where I usually put my finger, but I got used to it pretty quickly...
Uhm.......yeah......hope you liked the review.
