Pros:Picture is good Sound could be better Dual Headphones USB Port easy
Cons:Sound bad on airplane No low battery warning Won't play .WMV files
The Bottom Line: Easy to use, nice size screen. Sound average or above. With Headphones sounds excellent--Plane has a lot of ambient noise which may hamper sound.

I have the D1917 and as far as I know, it's NOT a recorder, but a Portable DVD and MP3 player. I did an average amount of research, only about a weeks worth. Once I saw the 9 inch screens, I didn't want to go smaller than that. And I'm very happy with the 9 inch. I bought mine at Sears for around $140, probably not a deal, but I got what I wanted and it works great for my expectations.

I was concerned about durability, battery life, screen size, and dual headphone jacks. I was willing to live with a 2 hour battery life. So I paid $40 bucks more for a generic plug in battery, just in case. I haven't needed it yet. I suppose I could have paid for a portable player with more battery life, but those players get even more expensive than what I paid for both.

Picture quality is good
Sound quality is very good (might be harder to hear on loud airplane even through headphones)
I like the dual headphones
USB Port easy to use. You can look at pictures too, don't expect high quality.

Very hard to hear sound on airplane even through headphones. But it could have been that particular DVD
The battery does not give you a warning when it runs out of power, it just stops working.
There is an IN/OUT button on the left side that accidentally got switched and the Player stopped working. I thought it was broken already, but it wasn't. Not sure what the switch is for, but it's in the manual

Battery can only be charged when attached to player.
This player will play MP3s. I haven't tried this feature, but it WONT play Windows Media files. I assumed wrong.
