| DeniseNC's Full Review: Audiovox MVX 480 Cell Phone |
You can't buy hardly anything for a penny these days, so I guess I should be happy I purchased a cellular phone for 1 penny. That is about the only good thing I can say about my cellular phone.
I am a United States Cellular customer. (that in itself would be an interesting epinion) When I was signed my contract with US Cellular, I was given the opportunity to purchase a phone. Among the choices were the Audiovox MVX-480 Series telephone. It was a "special" promotion for only $.01. Not knowing anything about portable cellular phones I chose this one. Big mistake.
I charged the battery as instructed in the directions. (10 hours) After charging I made about 5 calls using up 15 minutes. About 3 hours later I tried to use the phone and the battery was dead. This happens almost every time I use my phone.
The battery pack for this phone when fully charged should give you 80 minutes of usage before needing to be recharged. I have never been able to use it more than 30 minutes without the battery needing to be recharged. You are supposed to have 17 hours of standby usage. I have been woke up many times hearing a strange beeping noise, just to find it is my cellular phone dying in my purse. A spare charged battery pack is recommended for this phone, I recommend several.
You can purchase a Cigarette Lighter Rapid Charger which recharges the battery in 2.5 hours. Of course with using this, you do not have the freedom to walk around with the phone. If you need to use the phone though you can use this adapter.
This phone has a flimsy antenna. The tip of mine bent within a month. This phone is not durable at all. For optimum performance, the antenna needs to be pulled out, too bad this does not help reception. Unless I am close to a tower, I have poor reception.
There are some good features with this. Caller ID, Voice Mail notification, Call Waiting Caller ID, and Voice Mail notification.
There is a 12 month warranty included. I took my phone back to US Cellular hoping it was a defective phone, unfortunately it was not, as my new one has the same problems.
I guess for the money, it is not a bad deal, but I would not recommend it. The old saying is true, you get what you pay for. My contract with my cellular company is almost up and I have been doing research on cellular phones. I will be informed next time.
