| johnnywinter's Full Review: Audiovox Maestro PDA1032C |
I bought my Audiovox Maestro a few years ago, and overall yes, I'm very satisfied with it, and it's accessories. I would definately recommend this to a PDA beginner. This PDA features a full color touch screen, which I believe is 32 Bit color, a CF (compact flash) card port, a multimedia card port, an infra red transfer port, 4 programmable buttons, as well as a little rotational piece, a speaker, which can get loud enough to annoy, a voice recorder, headphone input, 32 MB internal memory, a Lithium internal rechargable battery, adjustable frontlight, and SOO much more full details available at COMPusa.com.
This PDA is great for scheduling, keeping contacts, writing reports, and even creating Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. These applications include many of the PC version features, even an excel sheet password protector. Speaking of password protection, if you feel as if you need to password protect it, which I recommend doing, it features a simple, 4 number legth password with digits available from your favorite numbers 0 - 9, or very advanced long style password consisting of numbers, letters, and symbols. Unfortunately I would not recommend using this ultra lock, considering it's a little tough to type in the password correctly on an on-screen keyboard, if you can actually type it in, it will probably take you a few tries.
Another feature of this box of technology is the four different types of keyboards, including an on screen keyboard, a letter recognizer, block recognizer, and Microsoft's new deal that doesn't even come with all PDA's standard today, the transcriber.
- ON SCREEN KEYBOARD -
The onscreen keyboard looks exactly like your average desktop keyboard, except with two new additional features, a number and symbols keyboard which is accessible through pressing a key on the top left, and a foreign letter keyboard accessible from a key on the bottom middle.
- LETTER RECOGNIZER -
The letter recognizer has three spaces to draw in your letters/ numbers, one section for capitals ABC, one for lowercase abc, and one for numbers 123, overall I would rate this 3rd out of the 4 typables, due to the problem that it can't always recognize all your letters and numbers properly.
- BLOCK RECOGNIZER -
The block recognizer is probably the worst of the four, with two input spaces one for lowercase, and one for numbers, which I cannot find out how to caps lock the input or even shift them to make them capital.
- TRANSCIBER -
The transcriber is probably second to best. Having no input boxes, or anything execept a toolbar that lets you do anything to capitalize to even putting in your own letters telling the PDA what YOUR EXACT writing looks like. Very smooth I would say. One problem remains though, while it works almost faultlessly, it sometimes inputs your writing to fast and will not let you finish your word.
The Maestro PocketPC also includes many other applications along with features, such as Windows Media Player, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and an Inbox condigurable to any inbox on the world wide web. It includes a Microsoft Reader for eBooks, which I think are really cool, and thousands of books are available for purchase and free download. The eReader, as so I call it, allows you to bookmark your pages and even highlight specific sentences and words.
Another application included in this package of joy is a free MSN Instant Messanger, a great IM, but not as commonly used as AOL, which you can get for the PDA, but it's gonna cost you.
The only one problem that I have found with this PDA, is that since it is made by Audiovox, which just recently started PDA's, it does not have very many commonly found accessories, and to get them I would order online from their site rather then go to the store.
OVERALL
Overall, this PDA is a great PDA for starters, novices, and even experts, it's a great expendature and will prove itself to you in the long run.
