Aunt Dimity the Ghost

Written: May 21 '04
Pros:easy and quick to read.
Cons:a British novel, set outside the U.S.
The Bottom Line: I sometimes have a hard time reading books set outside the U.S. but this one is a cute series.

AUNT DIMITY: DETECTIVE
A Penguin Mystery

This charming mystery is written by Nancy Atherton. She has many other Aunt Dimity mysteries written, and among them: Aunt Dimity's Christmas; Aunt Dimity's Good Deed; Aunt Dimity Digs In and many others. The book was published in paperback in 2001.

The main characters in the book are Lori, her attorney husband Bill, and their twin sons. They live in a cottage left to her by her mom's friend, Dimity. Dimity is a ghost. She "ghost writes" in a blue journal and offers advice to Lori.

Now, when I mention there is a ghost in the book, I don't want you to freak out...it's not a horror book, it's not a spooky book. The spirit of Aunt Dimity just IS. It's rather a charming book, and Aunt Dimity is rather charming herself!

In this book, Lori returns home from a vacation to find out that Prunella Hooper has died and it is apparently a murder. Prunella, often called "Pruneface" behind her back, is a newcomer to the town, and is not very popular at all.

With the help of Aunt Dimity and Nicholas, the nephew of the vicar, she unravels the mystery and solves thpuzzle of who killed the Pruneface.

The book, published in paperback, moves along rather well. It is easy reading, and a nice book to read on a cold night cuddled in bed, under the covers.
