jlhin's Full Review: Aussie Instant Freeze Sculpting Gel 7 fl oz
I have quite an arsenal of hair gels, mousse and cream gels. I have naturally curly hair, so, a wide variety of products is kind of a necessity. I'm always looking for new hair gels to try, so, when I came across Aussie Instant Freeze Sculpting Gel I decided to give it a try. What a mistake!
Cost & Location
I purchased my 7 OZ tube of Aussie Instant Freeze Sculpting Gel at my local Wal-Mart Supercenter for $2.97. You can purchase this product almost anywhere Aussie products are sold, varying in price.
The Details
Aussie recently revamped their hair care packaging to be a bit more modern and eye catching. The tube itself has a flip top cap for easy dispensing. The gel is completely clear in color. This gel has a maximum hold formula that, according to Aussie will make your hair the envy of even Alexandros of Antioch. Okay then.
Aussie Instant Freeze Sculpting Gel contains Wild Cherry Bark, but why, I have no idea.
The scent of this gel is really pretty nice. That's about the only positive thing I have to say about it. The scent is slightly sweet and fresh. It has great staying power so my hair stayed smelling fantastic all day long.
So What Went Wrong?
I have used Aussie products in the past and had great success with them, hence, why I didn't hesitate to purchase this gel. From the very first use I was extremely disappointed. I applied it, just as you're supposed to, to my damp curls and then scrunched it throughout making sure to evenly apply it. Right away I noticed the heavy, sticky texture to this gel. I figured it would blend into my hair and then the stickiness would disappear. After all, all hair gels are sticky right?
Unfortunately, the stickiness did not go away. I kept checking my curls as they dried and I was shocked by how sticky they felt. Once my curls had completely dried, I still noticed a slight stickiness to them, and, to make matters worse, they were horribly "crunchy." Yuck! I went through my day with crunchy, sticky curls thinking that perhaps I had just applied too much.
The next day I tried again, this time using less. I still ended up with horribly crunchy and sticky curls. It's as though the gel doesn't completely absorb! I don't know if it's perhaps because I let my hair dry naturally, or what, but, I couldn't handle the way my hair felt. It didn't look natural or healthy at all. Granted, my curls didn't frizz up because they were stuck together and appeared to have glue on them.
Thankfully I had no issues with this gel causing scalp irritation and it rinsed easily leaving no residue behind.
Overall
I can't recommend Aussie Instant Freeze Sculpting Gel in any form or fashion. Your best bet is to just avoid it and try something else!
