Pros: Inexpensive; easy to find; fruity scent.
Cons: Doesn't do anything! Scent becoming overwhelming.
The Bottom Line: While this doesn't actually harm my hair, it doesn't do a thing for conditioning! Not recommended at all.

| redhotspicy's Full Review: Aussie Mega Instant Conditioner |
Several months ago when I was searching for a shampoo and conditioner combination that would be gentle enough to use daily on my fine, wavy hair, my stylist recommended I try Aussie Mega products. I picked up both Aussie Mega Shampoo and Aussie Mega Instant Conditioner and gave them a go.
Mega Instant Conditioner is touted by Aussie as
"Everyday conditioning for normal hair"
"Rinses clean for daily use"
"Myth: Conditioners work better when changed often. Fact: Only if they build up."
"Our unique formula, with Australian Kangaroo Paw Flower, rinses away clean so there's no build-up that causes hair to droop. Hair will be extra shiny and soft."
~ from the bottle
All this sounded quite hopeful, so I was happy to pick up the set, at just $4 per bottle at stores like Target. With 16 ounces in each white plastic bottle, it sure is a deal. The bottle is pretty basic, a white and beige container with some imprinted kangaroos jumping about near the top. The conditioner is dispensed out through the cap at the top of the bottle, a plain press-down style lid. I prefer containers like that of Pantene's conditioners, as they stand so that the dispenser is at the bottom of the bottle, making it easy to use the last bit in each bottle.
Ingedients:
water, cetearyl alcohol, cetyl esters, behentrimonium chloride, kangaroo paw (angozanthos flavidus) flower extract, papaya (carica papaya) extract, kelp (macrocystis pyrifera) extract, chamomile (anthems nobius) extract, Indian cress (tropaelium majus) extract, ginseng (panax ginseng) extract, rosemary (rosemarius officianlis) extract, aloe barbadensis extract, cetrimonium chloride, amodimethicone, trideceth-12, propylene glycol, fragrance, phenoxyethanol, DMDM hydantoin, methylparaben, propylparaben, FD&C yellow no. 5, FD&C red no.4
Mega Instant Conditioner has a very powerful and strong scent. I generally prefer a light, feminine scent in my products, or no scent at all, but Aussie's is a heavy, tropical fruity aroma. Originally during the first week or so of use, I enjoyed the scent, but after a few uses it became cloyingly strong and overwhelming during my early-morning showers. At this point I cannot stand the smell; it simply makes me sick. The scent definitely lingers on my hair, not all day but for a while. However I use other products in my hair and blowdry, so the scent can be masked fairly well. On the rare days I let my hair dry naturally without adding additional products, the smell stays with me for several hours.
The conditioner itself is in a lotion form, typical of most hair conditioners. As far as conditioners go, this one is medium-thick, not super-heavy but certainly not runny. The texture is smooth and creamy but it lacks the rich, slippery feel of some other conditioners, like Pantene's). The color is a very pale orange.
The directions state to : Work conditioner through clean, damp hair. Rinse with warm water. For best results use with Aussie Mega Shampoo.
My major gripe concerning Aussie Mega Instant Conditioner is that is just doesn't work! I was expecting an effective but light conditioner, and what I got was, well nothing. I applied it as directed and rinsed it out after a few seconds. I realized immediately that it hadn't done a thing as far as detangling or making my hair feel smooth and silky. The conditioner does rinse out fairly easily, but once my hair was dry, my waves looked just as they would if I hadn't used conditioner at all! I have in the past used shampoo without following with conditioner (in order to discern the effectiveness of certain shampoos) and the results I achieved with Aussie Mega Instant Conditioner were identical to when I forgo the conditioner completely!
My hair didn't look bad, really. Just a little less shiny, a little more tangly, and a tad drier than usual. I experimented with leaving the conditioner on for various amounts of time, but my results were always the same. Used in conjunction with Aussie Mega Shampoo, my fine wavy hair eventually became dry and brittle. I don't believe this conditioner weighed my hair down or dried it out in particular (that was the shampoo!) but it didn't serve any purpose in regards to conditioning.
I can't recommend Aussie Mega Instant Conditioner as I do not find it works as it claims to. My hair did not feel conditioned or improved after using it. If you have very fine, limp hair it might work better for you, but if that is the case I recommend using a volumizing conditioner instead!
