| Freak369's Full Review: Aussie Real Volume Shampoo |
I’ve always been a huge fan of all the Aussie products – and when I stumbled across the Aussie Real Volume Conditioner I scooped it up – based just on the name and past performance of other products. I need a good conditioner – my hair is long and naturally curly – a double disaster just waiting to happen. Until I picked up Aussie Real Volume Conditioner I was using Aussie Slip which was great in every way – but it never hurts to try new products now and then.
Unlike other conditioners, Aussie Real Volume Conditioner is only made for one type of hair – fine, limp hair. Now, I don’t have fine or limp hair but generally I find that these types of conditioner give me the added volume I want as well as protecting my hair from the dreaded knots, tangles and damage incurred during ‘wet brushing’ [brushing your hair when it’s wet is more harmful than blow-drying]. Before I hop in the shower I make sure I brush my hair to get rid of any unseen knots [hey, I am dealing with a lot of hair here folks] then shampoo twice but don’t over do it and create tangles.
Since I need a little more help than the average person in the conditioner department I have to leave it on a bit longer than most people. Most times I shoot for five minutes, give or take a couple of seconds. The container says to apply to damp hair and rinse with warm water but I get my best results [and an awesome shine] with a cool water rinse. Each person has his or her own routine for using conditioner and some skip this step all together thinking that conditioners will weigh down your hair.
Testing The Waters
My first use of Aussie Real Volume Conditioner ended in disaster. I washed with my usual shampoo then applied the conditioner. The smell is almost intoxicating – light and soothing but not so much so that it stays with you all day. So I slap on a liberal amount, rub it in lightly and go to rinse off my hands. [cue ominous music] It’s at the moment in time that I realized that nothing is perfect. I took one step back, slipped, lost my balance and landed face first in the tub – about 1 inch from the edge of the tub.
Not knowing what happened – I assumed that some soap or shampoo landed in the tub. I dismissed it as a ‘freak’ accident [no pun] and started to rinse my hair. Wouldn’t you know it – it was the conditioner that was making the tub slippery. I guess this stuff is great for rejuvenating more than just hair. Now, I do have to add this – I do have those tacky, rubber, ‘non-skid’, stick on animals permanently attacked to the bottom of the tub – and even with the entire zoo down there I still managed to slip.
So after my panic attack I started to calm down a little and decided to just put the whole ordeal behind me. I pulled out my wide toothed comb and braced myself for what might be a long, drawn out procedure of combing my hair. To my surprise – not a single tangle, knot or clump anywhere. I did have a slight “slimy” feeling on my back – but I am pretty sure that was from not rinsing my back off all the way since I haven’t had that feeling since then.
So aside from the little ‘incident’ the product itself works great. If you are just washing your hair [in a sink or stationary tub] this would be a great product to use as a conditioner.. If you have long hair or hair that tends to get knotted – you should give this a try – but please be careful! :]
Second Test
Thinking that maybe it was the surface of the tub combined with the conditioner, I decided to play devils advocate and use my neighbor’s shower to see if I got the same result. Get naked, lather with shampoo, rinse, repeat, add conditioner… rinse hands…. Almost slip and fall. Humm, looks like the same thing minus the thought of a few thousand dollars in cosmetic dentistry I might have been having if I’d whacked my face off the side of the tub.
Calling Aussie
I was starting to get a little concerned so I called the toll free number on the back of the bottle to see if possibly I had gotten a bad bottle, perhaps it was just the way the product was made or if they had any information as to why I might be having this trouble. I was asked a series of questions about my shampoo use [I use the Aussie Real Volume Shampoo], the lot number on the bottom of the bottle, where I purchased it and a few other questions. I was also told that a few people had called about the product and she would forward the information to the Quality Control department. She didn’t let me off the phone all the quickly – she asked for my name, address and telephone number incase someone from the Quality Control department had further questions. About five days later I received a letter thanking me for my phone call and three [three!!!] free coupons for my choice of Aussie products [up to $5.99].
The Bottom Line
The Aussie name has always meant quality to me. They are a family company that is dedicated to providing top of the line products for the best hair you can possibly have. Although some of the products may seem overpriced [the stylers, mousse and hair spray] they have always given me tremendous results.
I am still undecided about the Aussie Real Volume Conditioner, I have since picked up another bottle from a different store [with a different lot number on the bottom] but haven’t worked up the courage to try it out yet. I’ll update this review when I do and post the results. I’ll also add any information I receive from Aussie’s Quality Control department if they contact me in the future.
Aussie Real Volume Conditionerhas an awesome scent – kind of like the shampoo’s – it’s not fruity or heavy but it does contain a touch of wild cherry. Unlike Suave, this scent doesn’t ‘travel’ with you all day – and living in this area – the last thing you want is fruity smelling hair in the summer time – unless you want every bug with wings dive-bombing you and living rent free in your hair.
And pursuant to the entire line of Aussie products, this product is not tested on animals.
