I purchased an Avanti dual zone wine chiller on 11/05/08. I noticed on installing it that everything about it seemed very cheap and flimsy. The door for the larger compartment never quite sealed all the way around. Stiff metal coils on the back stuck out beyond the shell of the unit meaning that it would have to sit quite a distance from the wall... Exactly 1 year later I began hearing it running constantly. When I pulled a bottle out of the larger, bottom compartment where the reds were supposed to be kept at 65 degrees F (nearly room temperature which should have meant the unit didn't have to work very hard), I found the bottles to be freezing cold to the touch. The back wall inside the lower zone was covered with ice. I called Avanti customer service to ask about getting a repair and they flat out told me that they do not extend the warranty even by a few days, and that I would have to hope a local repair service could figure out how to fix it at my expense. Not only did they refuse to honor the 1 year warranty because I was within no more than 2 weeks over 1 year, but when I called the customer service rep was very rude. She told me they don't recommend service people for any area (even though the manual for the chiller states that they are very proud of their service...I can't imagine why). I told her that I noticed there were many bad reviews on Amazon.com and elsewhere mentioning that the units die very frequently within 1 year or so, and she said she didn't care. I would NOT recommend this brand.
