| garethusa's Full Review: Aveda Curessence |
My hair is probably one of my best features that I should be in hair modeling shows! Sorry for blowing my own horn on this but it's true. As much as I impose color, perms, relaxers, blow drying, gels, mousses, cologne, hair spray on my hair, I really do love each and every single strand. Well except the gray ones that are now coming on strong! ("we're here...we're gray....get use to it!" they say in protest of another soon colouring treatment.)
I came across AVEDA Curessence Damage Relief Shampoo & Damage Relief Conditioner one day as I wasn't quite sure how I was going to help my damaged hair recover from a color followed up by a perm. The perm solution must have really dried out my hair and took away its vibrant and shiny demure! I mean my hair felt like a big SOS pad!
I was mortified!

Why buy Curessence AVEDA Shampoo and Conditioner?
While purchasing one of my favorite AVEDA pure-fumes , Joshua Tree ABSOLUTE 7 ml ($20) - a very VERBANA scented oil, I desperately looked thru the shampoo/conditioning section and found Curessence.
At about $17 per 6.7 fl oz /200 ml bottle (shampoo and conditioner) that stated clearly "deep conditions and fortifies with morikue protein" under the DAMAGE RELIEF branding, I took a chance and bought them. It also helped reading the back of the bottle:
Intensive conditioning shampoo with morikue protein improves the condition of damaged hair. Fortifying, rebuilding and nourishing hair so it looks shinier, healthier and more resilient.
Curessence also comes in a larger size of 16.9 oz for $36.00.

What is the Morikue protein used in these products?
Local workers gather fallen Brazil nuts from the forest and extract oil from the nuts. The leftover meal is combined with wheat protein to create morikue protein complex, a pure plant-derived protein, ideal for use in Aveda hair care products: Curessence Damage Relief Shampoo and Damage Relief Conditioner, daily-use Shampure Shampoo and Shampure Conditioner. Morikue protein also enriches styling favorites: Confixor, Firmata and Styling Curessence.
Protein is a favored ingredient in hair products, as it fortifies the hair shaft. It is especially nourishing to dry, damaged and chemically-treated hair, helping to revive silky-softness and shine. Morikue plant-based protein helps support Aveda's commitment to natural ingredients, resulting in consumer products that help condition and protect hairwhile also helping preserve rainforest territories and the cultures, languages and ancient wisdom that sustain them.

How to use AVEDA Curessence Shampoo and Conditioner:
Shampoo:
Massage Curessence shampoo into wet hair and scalp. Rinse. Follow with Curessence Conditioner.
Conditioner:
After Curessence shampoo, work Curessence Conditioner into hair and leave on for 2-5 minutes. Rinse.
After my first use, I was impressed that I no longer had that SOS pad feeling in my hair. Amazing stuff. My hair did not feel weighted down and truly recaptured its softness. It made me wonder where did all the damage go?

Can I use this as a daily shampoo/conditioner?
You may use this product DAILY if you do have DRY, DAMAGED (by thermal products, environment) or CHEMICALLY TREATED (color, perm, relaxers) hair. As a matter of fact, highly recommended.
You can also use it to treat your hair and scalp even if you don't have damaged or chemicially processed hair. However, I would recommend using the AVEDA Shampure Shampoo and Conditioner (AVEDA's basic shampoo and conditioner system for normal everyday hair) to save you some money (approx. $9.00 for 8 fl. oz or $25 for 33.8 fl oz bottle) while enjoying the benefits of Morikure protein too.

How does AVEDA Curessence smell and look like?
Shampoo:
Try to imagine some cherry almond with lavender mostly followed by a yummy bubble gum like aroma - yeah a bit sweet but very grounding and calming. The shampoo looks a bit skim milky, almost looking like a conditioner but much more fluid than a conditioner.
Conditioner:
Take the shampoo smell a notch or two down with a clean non-fragrant moisturizer smell. The conditioner retains your basic thick white globby look that feels silky to the touch.

Tips on maximizing your Curessence use:
1. Use warm water, not cold.
2. Use about a dime-quarter in size of shampoo in your palm. Make sure hair is nicely wet. Start from neck hair line and work forward and through.
3. Massage product into both hair and scalp to maximize benefits.
4. Enjoy the relaxing pure-essence of the AVEDA fragrance while in the shower.

You will feel an improved, if not AMAZING, difference in just one wash with both Curessence Shampoo and Conditioner.
I recommend following up with AVEDA's Pure-Fume Brilliant DAMAGE CONTROL after your shower.
