| girlfriday1's Full Review: Aveda Lip Liner Minus Petro Waxes |
Admittedly, Aveda products don't wow me. Their earth conscious platform is nice in theory, but the actual products usually fall short.
I jumped on the Aveda band-wagon back in college. My hairdresser specialized in the line, and the girls were always looking for a "face" to try out the new colors. I sat in the chair like a good girl, smiled, walked out to the car, and wiped half of their "artwork" off. Not that the colors were horrible, but moreso because I hate a "made up" face. Keep that in mind whenever you read my beauty reviews. I opt for a clean, fresh look. No heavy, dark colors for me. Well, maybe a brick red lip from time to time...
Anyhoo, where was I?? Oh yes, this lip liner by Aveda. MAPLE. The color is right on the money. No kidding, it's just $11. It's in pencil form, so have a good sharpener in your repertoire. How come I sing the praises of this one color?? Read on.
Maple. Others Have Tried, But You're Still King
- I favor lip liners in the classic form. Those twisty plastic numbers always seem too dry.
- Maple is what? On the brown side (muted), perhaps slighty pinky/red. The color you wish your lips were naturally. It defines a natural shape/color of your mouth, and somehow melds with virtually any lip color you apply. Works great with any reds, darker pinks, browns (please don't wear those dark browns- it makes 90% of the population look dead) that I have tried.
- glides on nicely, not too dry, not too slick.
- Staying power. I have found other colors in this same line that seem to stain my lips a funny orange after some time. Maple seems to stay truer than most.
- Keeps lipstick in it's place. No feathering. My favorite match is this liner with a lipstick from Lancome called Amande Sucre. It's a nice combination.
- Looks great as an all-over lip color with a bit of sheer gloss.
- Not just flattering for those of the caucasian persuasion. Those blessed with some color will look just as pretty.
* I would be remiss if I didn't mention that this product is manufactured without ozokerite, a synthetic derivative of a once mined substance (name now eludes me). I haven't found much evidence supporting that this substance is "bad", but if it works without, so be it.
