| kleighb's Full Review: Aveda Pressed Powder Plus Antioxidants |
Aveda Pressed Powder Plus Antioxidants is one of the best I have ever come across as a matte-faced afficionado. I have tried them all. And Aveda is the one I keep coming back to. I am presently "using" 5 different face pressed powders. You can never have one too many. Aveda Pressed Powder Plus Antioxidants is the one I reach for every time.
According to Aveda, the product is "An almost weightless, translucent face powder that glides on evenly. It diffuses light to enhance the complexion and even out skin tone. Lightly scented with pure rose aroma, it sets makeup, never looks dry or cakey, and won't streak or clog pores. Perfect for makeup touchups throughout the day."
The powder costs approximately $22 and is formulated in a variety of shades, such as Cream, Linen, Cinnamon, Teak and Bronze. It contains Antioxidants (which Aveda doesn't reveal, but are most likely Vitamins A, C and E) which help to protect the skin by fighting environmental damage, such as that caused by free radicals in smoke and air pollution. Free radicals damage the collagen matrix of the skin, causing premature aging. Therefore, I feel that it is ultimately wise to use a product with antioxidants and vitamins, if not a moisturizer AND a foundation, too.
The color I use is Linen, and it is perfect for my pale skintone. In my long-time experience with this product, I have never had any streaking, caking and yellowing occur. It also absorbs oil quite nicely, keeping shine at bay. I have also found that I can achieve heavier coverage (i.e. "I am too lazy to apply my foundation today") by wetting the applicator sponge and using the powder as a combo foundation/powder. It works very well, although it is not sold for this purpose...
One very nice thing about this powder that I have noticed is it's delicate rose scent. Aveda's liquid makeup has this as well. It is a pleasure to apply and experience. The scent does eventually fade with time, so a powder that is 3-4 months old will not have that fresh and dewy rose aroma.
You purchase powder and compact separately. Aveda sells sleek, mirrored and reuseable magnetic compacts which can hold pressed powder, blush or eye shadow tablets. It is a very nice compact, but it does add the the price. Aveda offers three sizes of compacts, but only 2 will fit this powder. The two larger sizes, priced at $16 and $22.50. If you don't purchase a compact, you'll have to be happy with the flimsy, molded plastic case the powder tablet is shipped in.
Aveda cosmetics can only be purchased at Aveda Concept Salons. To find the one nearest you, visit www.aveda.com. Many of these salons may also be willing to ship anything you order, alleviating the need to visit them in person.
I am very comfortable in the quality of the Aveda product ingredients. This company has a great concern for the environment and it shows through in their choice of natural, high-quality ingredients. I have used Aveda products for over 10 years now, and they consistenly produce premium natural products, even after they were bought by cosmetics giant Estee Lauder.
I highly recommend this Aveda pressed powder. With the ability to be used wet or dry, it has coverage to match just about anyone.
