Pros: Works fast. Not painful.
Cons: Too many pieces to take apart to clean and put back together.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this pump. It works quickly, is not painful and I personally was able to pump more milk in less time than with other pumps I have tried.

| mcangell's Full Review: Avent Isis |
When I became pregnant, I began to research breast pumps. I knew I needed a new pump as my Medela Mini Electric was on the fritz and to replace the motor would be just as expensive as purchasing a new pump. I didn't need a "heavy duty" pump, such as the Pump in Style as I just wanted a breast pump for occasional use.
Almost every mom I talked to recommended the Avent Isis. I admit I was skeptical, how could a manual pump be all that great? But almost everyone I spoke to raved about the Isis. I came here to Epinions and did more research and was impressed with what I had read. With all that in mind, I went and purchased the Avent Isis.
I recently went to clean and sterilize it for use. One thing I didn't care for was there are so many pieces! I felt like I was trying to put a puzzle together and had to keep referring to the directions. I was pleased to find that they had included some extra "key" parts. Sometimes those little, tiny rubber pieces are easy to lose (I lost a rubber disc for my Mini Electric and without it the pump wouldn't work). After cleaning it and sterilizing and assembling it, I was all ready to try it out.
The first night that my 2 month old daughter slept through the night, I woke up extremely engorged. This was the perfect time to try out the Isis. She nursed one side and fell back asleep so I got all ready to pump. Keep in mind, I was pumping in the dark and couldn't see anything. I began to pump and thought that it wasn't working as I really couldn't "feel" anything. I kept at it a few more minutes and got frustrated and turned on the light, secretly cursing Avent under my breath because I thought I had a pump that was defective. Imagine my surprise when I looked and found that the Isis had pumped 3 ounces of milk in less than 5 minutes! I was thoroughly amazed as I was convinced nothing was coming out! Now I was shocked as I remember pumping with the Medela Mini Electric for a half hour and only getting about 2-3 ounces. The Isis had come through with flying colors and best of all, it didn't HURT! There was no tugging at the nipple or soreness afterward.
I can't say enough about the Avent Isis. It works fast, pain free and it is reasonably priced at around $40.00. It works with any of the Avent bottles too and you can purchase it to work with the Avent disposable bottles too. While I would not recommend this pump for someone who needs to pump several times a day, it is perfect for those moms who need to pump every so often.
