| reengler's Full Review: Avent Microwave Steam Sterilizer Model 502 |
When most people find out we use a sterilizer, they ask why not just wash bottles in the dishwasher? I always wonder how many bottles they have and how frequently they run their dishwashers. The rate at which our daughter goes through bottles, we would either need many more bottles or run the dishwasher half empty 1-2 times/day.
This sterilizer is a wonderful alternative. We clean and rinse bottles in a bowl of soapy water and put up to 4 at a time in the sterilizer with nipples, caps, rings, even pacifiers. Five minutes in the microwave and two minutes of "stewing" time and the bottles are sterile. If you forget and leave the sterilizer in the microwave (even overnight), you don't damage anything. I frequently load it up, start the microwave and leave.
It uses much less energy than stove-top or dishwasher sterilization and is much faster. Without this sterilizer, we would probably need twice as many bottles.
Do be careful with just-sterilized stuff. It's extremely hot.
