Pros: Extremely durable! Wide neck allows for less mess when filling and easy cleaning.
Cons: Will leak if not assembled properly. Instruction manual could be more clear.
The Bottom Line: Despite the "learning curve" required to properly use the Avent Bottle System I am a VERY happy Avent customer, and glad I made the Avent investment. Excellent product!

| marybatson's Full Review: Avent Naturally All-In-One Starter Set 400 |
The All-in-One Starter Set includes two 8 ounce disposable bottles with 20 pre-sterilized bottle liners, two 9 ounce reusable bottles with newborn nipples, two newborn pacifiers, a bottle brush, and 5 sealing clips for easy storage in fridge or freezer. This is an awesome starter set because one gets to try the disposable system as well as the reusable bottle system.
I did not discover the disposable bottles until my son was three-months old. I regret this as I loved the convenience of using the Isis hand breast pump to express my milk directly into the pre-sterilized liners for feeding or storage. Not to mention the disposable system is convenient for mom's on the go! The differences between the disposable and the reusable bottles -
1. Disposable is a 8 ounce bottle, reusable is a 9 ounce bottle.
2. The bottle liners are throw-away for less mess.
3. The bottle liners double as storage bags for breast milk.
4. The bottle liners collapse as baby eats, eliminating air bubbles that can cause gas.
5. The nipples are shaped the same, but the base of the disposable nipples are wider to accommodate the disposable bottle and are tinted blue so there is no confusion between the reusable clear nipples.
6. Both accommodate the Isis breast pump, but with the disposable one can express and store using the bottle liner.
7. Variable flow nipples are not available in disposable.
8. Spill proof caps are not available in disposable.
Avent nipples are made of silicone and never collapse. They are shaped to mimic the breast, therefore breast fed babies will accept the nipple easier so combining bottle with breast feeding is easier for Avent mothers. This system grows and adapts as your baby grows. Avent nipples are categorized in the following stages -
Stage 1 newborn
Stage 2 slow-flow, 1 month +
Stage 3 medium-flow, 3 months +
Stage 4 fast-flow, 6 months +
Variable flow, 3 months + (flow varies to suit baby's needs)
Spill proof top, 6 months +
I opted to purchase the variable flow nipples when my son turned three-months old, but nowhere in the manual did it convey HOW to regulate the flow. The answer - one must line the Roman numerals on the nipples up to baby's nose in order to adjust the flow. This makes sense of course, but I had to call the 1-800 number to discover that "little" detail. Once I got the "flow" I loved it, and so did my son.
Despite this hiccup I believe this system is superior to any other product on the market. These bottles are designed to reduce gas, and seem to do the job, while the wide neck allows for easy cleaning, and less mess when filling the bottles. Extremely durable, the hard plastic, and printed measurement features have withstood 16 months of sterilizing, dishwashing, dropping, nibbling and gnawing without any sign of cracks, splits, or chips.
HOWEVER, these bottles should come with an instruction video. I learned the hard way that the nipples need to be completely snapped into place, otherwise, these bottles will leak. In addition, the ring on the lids must be placed directly on top of the nipples, or else, they will leak if not stored COMPLETELY in an upright position.
Overall, I am very pleased with the Avent bottle system, and confident in recommending the product.
