Pros:Removable handles, compatible with other Avent items
Cons:My daughter hated it, mouthpiece may need to be replaced sooner than desired.
The Bottom Line: They don't leak and the handle is handy. Glad I didn't stock up on them though, my daughter hated it.
We started with Avent bottles and liked them so much I thought it would only make sense to continue with the Avent products since theyre interchangeable and use the Avent cups as well.
Whats included
The product has several different pieces to it. The base of the cup, the handle, the neck, and the mouthpiece and the leak-proof block on the underside of the mouthpiece, and the cap that goes over the mouthpiece.
Base of the cup
The cup is made of plastic and has survived being thrown across the room in disgust several times. The cup is 9 ounces and comes in a couple different solid colors. If you are using the Avent breast pump, these cups can be attached to it for added convenience. The lids can also be added to the Avent bottle base if preferred.
The mouthpiece
The mouthpiece is hard however and has a bit of a soft rubber feel to it so would be gentler on gums or teeth Id assume. The spout is a lot longer than traditional training cups. There is a clear round stopper under this mouthpiece which prevents the cup from leaking. The stopper is very effective with this mouthpiece; it has never fallen into the cup or leaked from the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece can also handle drinks with pulp.
The spouts are available in three different sizes. 3 months which are white, 6 months which are green, and a sport spout for older toddlers which are clear.
Learning
The design of the cup is suppose to aid in learning. The cup comes with a handle that can be placed the lid to give the child handles for easy drinking. Once the child becomes older the handles can be removed. The handle is also transferable to the Avent bottle.
Cleaning
The product should be sanitized completely before the first use. Cleaning is pretty easy, disassemble all the pieces and load it into your dishwasher. The stopper needs to be removed in order to clean the spout which is the most important step. The stopper was very frustrating for me at first because it was so difficult to remove from the mouthpiece but after a few tries it loosened up and became much easier. The instructions indicate not to use anti-bacterial cleaners on it. The mouth of the cup is wide enough that it is possible to wash by hand should you have that type of ambition.
Replacement Pieces
Replacement pieces can be found in stores that carry the Avent brand. Replacement of the mouthpiece is encouraged by Avent after a couple of months.
My Experience
Although I liked this cup a lot my daughter did not. She hated it and often refused to use it which I found was quite odd. She loved the handle, she loved the Avent bottle, but she hated the spouts on this drink cup.
One thing that I really didnt like is that it is the type of plastic that can absorb stains in fact the instructions mention that it can absorb the stain in the dishwasher.
I also prefer a more feminine style of cup. I usually could only find boyish colors and the cups are always plain without decoration. The cup choices are: green & yellow; blue & green; pink & yellow; yellow & orange; or yellow and blue.
The Avent cups cost around $5 for one or $8 for a two-pack.
