"Fast, easy, and if you lose the instruction booklet - don't panic" is the best way to describe Avery DesignPro 2000.
When my husband asked that I design and print him some business cards for his sod farm, I went to my local Wal-Mart and bought computerized business cards, came home and set to work. What a pain! Since I have an older computer, my programs did not support the Avery Label numbers that I needed, nor did my Microsoft Work program. I tried and tried to get the information that I needed in the correct position on the card, but no luck. I even tried the Avery internet site, but I really struggle every time I download a program - I just can't seem to make it work right. So I thought, "No big deal, I'll just buy a program to make this work!"
I purchased Avery DesignPro 2000 at Office Max for $39.99, after looking at $200 programs to update my Microsoft Work programming and Windows 98 software. I knew that I surely wanted to spend less money than it would cost to have them professionally made!
This program is easy, versatile and really fun. After the installation process, I just selected the Avery product number that I was using (even the generic products give you the Avery number) and that template was on the screen. My business cards look great - I used black lettering, white background and set part of my information within blocks of "John Deere green" color. I was able to center, resize information, change fonts, colors, all the different options until I had my business cards ready. Printing was super easy, I just selected the number of copies that I wanted - and all 1000 business cards turned out great and very professional looking.
Next my husband decided he wanted me to do a marketing mailout, so off I went to buy address labels and other supplies. I used the 8 1/2 by 11 inch template to get a blank page and started on my design. I was able to import pictures, have blocks of color with information, center, resize - all the options you would expect to find. The only problem was when I imported digital pictures, I had to be careful because it doesn't keep the scale exact. I'm sure my brother-in-law doesn't mind looking 15 pounds lighter, but I needed to balance two pictures under the business name, and the option was to make my husband's picture wider, which made him look heavier!
Return address labels were so easy, all I did was select the Avery Product number, put my information into the template and print. I didn't want any graphics or pictures on my labels, but that option is available. It's so easy, I didn't even need to use the instruction booklet.
The hardest part of the program, Avery DesignPro 2000, is the databasing. But by reading the instruction booklet and really paying attention, I was able to make my database fields, add my information, sort and print. I still haven't figured out how to add an additional field within a database, but since I had only input 15 names and addresses, I just started over. Even with the directions, I'm not able to combine my three completed databases into one large database. I even tried importing into my excel program then exporting back out, but I wasn't able to make it work exactly right. The instruction book says that any database you have in another program can be imported into the Avery DesignPro 2000 and used. It really wasn't necessary for me to combine three databases, but it would have been nice.
Would I buy the Avery DesignPro 2000 again? Could I recommend it to my friends? Absolutely! Avery - "A Very" easy program to use!
