If you are someone that likes to add a little zip to cards, envelopes, scrapbooks or letters then these markers are a must have! When I first came across the GelWorks markers I figured that I would use the gold and silver ones for greeting cards and maybe to address an envelope or two, now that Ive had these for a while Ive found so many different uses for them. One of my favorites is to use them with rubber stamps, just flip the stamper over, use the marker on it and press it firmly onto a piece of paper. It doesnt get any easier than that. You do have to work quickly so the ink doesnt dry up but after a few practice runs, youll be whipping them out in no time. The nicest thing about the gold and silver set is that you can use them on almost anything around the house; from notes to important messages, adding messages to the outside of boxes or even adding little hearts or stars to greeting cards. I can almost guarantee that once you get a set of these, youll be using them on everything you write.
Avery GelWorks Metallic Gel Marker Two-Color Set
These come packages two to a set, one gold and one silver. There are other colors available but these two are the most basic and the ones that see the most amount of use. I like the fact that these dont have a fine tip to them; this means you can address envelopes with them without the post office saying that they cant make out the information. Another perk is that the caps attach to the back of the pen when they are in use, some have caps that cant be placed on the backs and this is just a recipe for disaster if you lose or misplace them. The ink comes out in an nice even flow and unless you dwell in one spot for too long, you wont see any ink building up or warping the paper. Theres almost no chance of this smearing or smudging on most papers because the ink dries almost instantly. The only time there might be a problem is if you are using this on a glossy paper, in this case, give it a little while to dry then cover it with some clear tape to protect it.
The ink is non-toxic so everyone in the family can use this without having to worry about kids being exposed to harmful chemicals. If you get this on your hands or wrists it does take a little muscle to get it off but I suggest using a finger brush and liquid soap to get most of it off. These dont have an odor to them [at least none that I can pick up on] so if you are sensitive to markers, using these wont be a bother. These look great on black paper, greeting cards and manila envelopes but you can use it on anything you like; poster board, cardstock, construction paper, cardboard
if its flat and you can write on it then you can use these on it! Kids love to write with these and Ive had more than a few of them go missing from my desk. No one will ever admit to stealing or borrowing them so beware, if you buy these, theres a good chance someone is going to make off with one of them if they try them out.
Price
You can find the two pack of silver and gold at most office supply stores for about $2.50 and if youve never used them before, this is a great way to try them out without having to invest in larger sets. You can purchase these individually at places like Wal-Mart and Target but you are going to pay about $1.50 - $2.00 for them individually. Prices do vary from place to place so check online to see which store will give you the best deal. I really wish Avery would sell these two colors in a bulk pack, maybe five of each color, this way I could stock up on them and not have to get paranoid that Im going to run out of ink when Im doodling on things. Avery stands behind their products so if you come across one that is defective or dried up, they will replace it at no cost to you.
The Bottom Line
Even though I have a lot of different colors from the GelWorks line, these are the colors that I purchase most often. These get used more than any of the other colors so I am always stocking up on them when I see them on sale or am planning on writing out a lot of cards. These are really nice to have around for the holidays; writing out messages is so much nicer when you have these two gel colors to work with. About the only thing Avery could do to improve on these would be to offer them with a rubber comfort grip but even without one, these are a pure pleasure to write with!
As always, thanks for the read!
