| Freak369's Full Review: Avery Gelworks Metallic Gel Permanant Ink Markers ... |
If you havent already figured out that I am a pen junkie, this review might clue you in. Strolling the aisles of office supply stores looking for the new product or new item tags is something that I love to do. You never know which company is going to come out with the newest, latest or most impressive pen or marker and trust me; there are thousands to choose from. I am a huge fan of gel pens have used the gold and silver metallic pens from Avery for almost every holiday under the sun, if they sell a greeting card for it, chances are Ive used one of the metallics on them. The beauty of the six pen set is that you get a lot of cool colors and these write on almost everything. About the only thing that these wont write on are smooth glossy pages that dont have a grain to them; outside of that, almost anything is game where this marker is concerned.
Avery GelWorks Metallic Permanent Ink Markers
If you dont really think much about the type of pen that you write with then chances are this product isnt going to impress you. However, if you are someone that loves trying out new pens and markers then get ready for a real treat! Even though this is classified as a gel pen, the tip of it is that of a marker so you can do a lot with it. Even after writing out a ton of thank you notes, the tips are still in great shape and look almost as good as when I got the set. I originally picked up the gold and silver set to add a little color to greeting cards and when I saw the six color set I figured I might as well get those instead of another gold and silver combo since it was only a few dollars more.
Avery puts out some of the best markers and this set is one of my personal favorites. The colors are nice to work with, the markers are easy to grip and the ink dries fast. Make no mistake about it, the colors are most definitely girlie so dont expect many guys to pick these up and go gaga over them. Sure they might use the blue or purple in a pinch but theyll run away from the pink especially when they see the cool sparkles. Kids love to use these to write with and the tips are strong enough to hold up to even the heaviest of hands. One word of warning about letting kids use these, this is permanent ink and if it gets on their hands you will have a hard time getting it off.
Some people might think that spending about ten dollars on a set of markers is a little pricey but once you pick up one of these and start writing with it youll know that it was money well spent. If you purchased them individually [at about three bucks a pop] youd be spending a lot more in the long run to get all the colors. Since I already used the gold and silver ones in the past I knew what to expect from these and I wasnt disappointed in the least when I opened the pack and started using them. Theres no odor to them and you dont have to sit there and pump the end of it to get it to work; just pick a color, pop off the cap and write away!
Colors
The six pen set includes the following colors: gold, silver, purple, pink, teal and baby blue. The colors are all mild and appealing to the eye and can be used on almost every type of paper. I use these mostly for writing out greeting cards and addressing large envelopes and Ive never had a problem with the ink smudging or smearing. The ink dries fast but if you are coving a large surface or doodling it will seep through the page and warp it. If you do any kind of scrapbooking or like to personalize your photo albums these are great markers to use.
Things To Know
• If you arent sure if these markers are for you and you dont want to invest in the six marker set you can pick them up individually for about three dollars a piece, if you shop at larger office supply stores you might be able to find them cheaper but three bucks is the norm. You can also pick up the gold and silver combo pack for about four dollars.
• These work great on darker papers and black paper notebooks. The lighter the color the better it will show up. You can safely use these on scrapbook pages, photographs and mementos without worrying about the ink destroying it because the ink is archival safe [acid free].
The Bottom Line
If you are someone that likes to have a little color when you are writing these markers are a great thing to have around. Avery makes other color sets [some are metallic, some arent] that are also great to have on hand for the holidays. The red and green [both regular and metallic] are a great way to add some sparkle to Christmas cards and with Valentines Day coming up, my red ones are going to see a lot of use. You can use these to add a little sparkle to everyday notes, messages or memos or hand them to the kids and let them make their own cards. Ive had nothing but good luck with these and I am sure that Ill be picking up the rest of the sets and color combinations in the near future.
As always, thanks for the read!
