Add Some Style To You Letters & Packages With Avery's Gold Foil Return Address Labels

Written: Nov 07 '05 (Updated Feb 20 '06)
Pros:Easy to use, thirty stickers per sheet, cost effective, nice look.
Cons:Hard to write on for hand addressing of labels.
The Bottom Line: Hard to write on for hand addressing of labels.

There aren’t many office tasks that I truly hate but sitting and writing out return addresses on envelopes and packages has to be on my personal top ten list. We have an older dot matrix printer that we use to print up return address labels but when they ink starts to dull they look pretty nasty. For our announcements and thank you cards I decided to pick up some ink jet return address labels when our print company was running a special on them. The Avery line of products have always impressed me and I’ve never had any issues with them so I felt extremely confident buying several different styles of labels without checking them out at the local office supply store first. So far I am really pleased with all the address and return address labels I purchased from the Avery line, they are self adhesive, look great on any type or color paper and allow you to have your return address plain and visible if there is ever need of an item to be returned to you.

Avery Gold Foil Return Address Labels
300 per pack, 3/4 x 2-1/4

These self adhesive permanent labels are just the thing for making quick work of getting greeting cards, letters and small parcels in the mail. You can print up a few or a whole sheet when you use the Avery Wizard available at their website [downloadable to your computer]. I do suggest that you try to run at least a half a sheet at a time, if you run these through a printer too many times you run the risk of one of the corners coming away from the sheet and jamming inside the printer. The beauty of this is that you can print up an entire sheet and tuck the extras away inside the package or a file folder for later use. This way you always have return address labels that you can apply to bills, letters, greeting cards or packages. The gold foil paper adds a little extra glitz to Christmas cards and looks good whether it’s on white or colored envelopes. There are no lines to these so hand addressing them becomes a tedious task, even more so if you don’t use a permanent marker like a fine line Sharpie.

There are thirty labels per page and ten sheets per package so you are getting three hundred labels in each cardboard envelope. I like the way that Avery packages these, the sheets are protected from dust and dirt and it helps to keep them from warping or bending if you store them in hanging file folders. The gold tone of the label makes them a great pick for invitations, announcements or other special occasions and if you are someone that has a huge list of people that you send Christmas cards to, these look great on red and green envelopes. It takes a lot to get a kink in these when you are removing them but it does happen from time to time. Make sure you position these correctly because once they are attached to the paper, it is almost impossible to remove them and reposition them. They are small enough that they don’t attract a lot of attention but they are large enough that the name and address can clearly be read. You can also use these inside invitations to have an R.S.V.P. date stand out.

Printing

You can run these through almost any type of ink or laser printer and setting up the print job through Word, Works or using the Avery software [available at the website] is pretty simple. The only trouble you might run in to is if you are using a half sheet or a sheet that you have already removed stickers from. This is why it is really important to remove the stickers from the sheet gently so you don’t create any creases or warps in the page. If it’s possible, print the entire sheet at once - that doesn’t mean waste them by printing up 30 return addresses at once if you have no need for them but if you think you might have a use for them in the future just tuck it into a file folder for later use. I used these at home and at the shop and had more luck with my cheap printer at home. The printer at the shop has two different ways to load the paper; top or feed tray. If you have the choice, opt to slide this into the feeder tray, it eliminates having to slide it into a top feeder and wondering if it is in far enough for it to catch when the print job is started. You get a very nice print from these labels and the ink never smudges or smears once it has been printed.

Price

These aren’t the cheapest return address labels on the market and you will pay a couple cents more for the gold foil design but to me they are worth it when you want to have a little bit of extra flair on the things you are mailing out. I got this pack as part of an online promotion from a site that we use to have our ‘new artist’ cards printed up at. They are a local company but we use their website to send graphics and info back and forth because it is easier and cheaper than mailing it to them. They were offering this pack for $7.95 if you purchased any combination of five products from their online store. When I priced this at other sites it was a little more at some, a little less at others but I got free shipping from PromoProductions so I did save some cash in the process. Are these worth it? If you send out a lot of mail they are, especially if you want to add a little bit of extra style to whatever it is that you are sending out.

The Bottom Line

If you are going to go all out when it comes to greeting cards, announcements or invitations then you might as well get the best return address labels for the job. But don’t think that these are so ‘high class’ that you can’t use them on your everyday stuff like bills. With three hundred labels per pack, an easy print set up and very nice look these are some of the best return address labels you can get without having them printed up professionally. You can customize the font, size and style with the click of a button thanks to Avery’s print wizard and if you ever need any help, there are there to answer any questions that you may have. If you do encounter any problems with their products, they do stand behind them 100%. I’ve never come across any dried out or older labels that didn’t stick to letters or packages but if that ever happens, I know that Avery will replace them at no cost to me.

As always, thanks for the read!
