Perk Up Your Pumpkins With Avery’s Marks-A-Lot Large Chisel Tip Orange Marker
Written: Oct 06 '03
Pros:Easy to use, nice color, inexpensive, tons of uses.
Cons:Some might find the slight odor a little offensive.
The Bottom Line: Looking to add a little color to your selection of markers? Avery’s Marks-A-Lot Large Chisel Tip Orange Marker is a great pick!
With Halloween right around the corner, the decorations are slowing getting put up both inside and outside the house. Skeletons, creepy monsters, pumpkins and ghosts are everywhere with the occasional floating bat, slithering snake and haunted house thrown in for good measure. Considering that I have a lot of decorations I dont get all that upset when I come across something thats broken, damaged or needs some type of repair but I was a little sore when I saw the large rubber pumpkin with a few small gouges in it, it seems the dogs thought it was a toy and started playing with it hence the unexplained teeth marks in the side. Not wanting to throw out one of my favorite pumpkins I turned to the one product that I knew would help to cover up the scratches and marred areas my handy dandy Marks-A-Lot Large Chisel Tip Orange Marker. It worked almost as well as I hoped but there were a few sections that were just too tore up to be repaired with a marker so I had to improvise and cover them with packing tape then go over that with the marker. Low and behold my shot in the dark worked proving once again that theres no task too bizarre for an Avery product to handle.
Avery Marks-A-Lot Permanent Marker Orange Chisel Tip
If youve ever used any of the other Avery Marks-A-Lot products, youll know what to expect from this specific marker superb ink flow, a strong tip and lasting color that is not only waterproof and dries almost instantly. The large barrel of the marker allows it to be held by hands of all size and the outside of the marker is clearly marked with the color ink it provides. This is great when you are working on posters or projects and have several of the large Marks-A-Lot markers in use at the same time. The color is what really hooked me, sometimes you see the color on the barrel of the marker and like it but when you start to use it you find that its darker or lighter than what you expected. This is almost identical to the hue shown on the outside of the marker. The color will change slightly if you overlap the lines or are using thin paper but for the most part, when you use this you will get great results.
Ink
The ink flow is the same as all other Marks-A-Lot products, perfect. Even when the cap is left off or not placed on properly, the ink flow remains solid. What I really like is that it dies almost instantly, the only time I ever had trouble with the ink not drying all the way was when the paper became saturated and started to break apart on me still that isnt the markers fault. While a little messy, these are the markers that I prefer the boys to use when they are working on a project, since the ink is non-toxic I dont have to worry about them getting it all over their hands [and face, and clothes and legs etc]. Cleaning it up and off of skin is another story, since you are dealing with a permanent ink you will want to try and be as careful as possible with this when you are using it. To remove it from skin youll need to use soap, water and a lot of elbow grease.
Price
I found these at Office Depot for $1.19, which I really consider to be a good deal. If you are interested in colored multi packs, youll have to look high and low for them since most retail stores dont stock them. These arent much more than the standard black ones but trying to fins some of the colors can be a real chose. If you do come across a multi colored pack I highly suggest that up pick them up because they have a ton of uses around the house. For the price, this is one of the best wide line permanent markers that I really consider worth every penny.
Things To Know
This is a great marker for Halloween projects or when you just want to add a little color to packages, boxes or signs. This size marker comes in a variety of colors including green, red, blue, yellow, brown and purple. You can purchase these individually or in assorted color packages so youll always have plenty of colors to choose from. These are backed with a satisfaction guarantee, if you arent happy with them simply follow the instructions on the back of the package to obtain a refund or replacement.
The Bottom Line
With fall fast approaching and Halloween right around the corner I know that this marker is going to get a real workout over the next few months. We have several fundraisers that we are attending and this marker, along with all its brothers and sisters, will come in particularly handy for making signs. On a Halloween note, this marker is great for making paper pumpkins of all sizes. You can also use this on real pumpkins to tough up blemishes, dark spots or mistakes made then when painting or decorating. You may have to apply a few coats to cover dark spots but it is well worth the effort if you want perfect looking pumpkins.
Wishing you and yours
a safe and spooky Halloween season
