| Freak369's Full Review: Avery Secure Lock Folders Blue |
The world of office organization isnt an exciting one; even more so when it comes to picking out folders. Either they work to keep papers organized and safe or they dont. Avery put a nice spin on the old fashioned two pocket folder when they designed the Secure Lock folders. What makes these different from their counterparts? There are three locking tabs that help to keep papers in place. Couple that with the flexible but sturdy plastic material used and you have a pretty impressive folder. These are a nice upgrade from standard two pocket folders and are perfect for the office use, student assignments, presentations and an alternative to having product catalogs bound. These will accommodate standard sized 8 1/2 X 11 papers and smaller and the handy business card slot can also be used for photos, business card magnets or printed contact information.
Avery Secure Lock Folders
One of the nicest things about this folder is that you have three flaps that lock papers in place; two on the inside to prevent papers from sliding out and one on the outside that keeps it closed. The internal flaps are easy to use and will hold about fifteen to twenty pages per side, any more than that and you might run in to some trouble closing the folder and using the outer lock. As far as the strength of the folder, this will surpass any paper folder and most of the plastic ones on the market. Its flexible but provides enough protection to keep papers from getting bent, if you are really worried about them, toss in a precut piece of cardboard for a little added support. Since this is made of a flexible plastic I was worried that they would warp or slump over but theyve held up nicely so far.
The outside of the folder isnt textured so applying a label or writing on the surface is easy. I suggest using a clear label rather than a paper one, these are easier to remove if you dont get it positioned correctly and it gives it a more professional look. If you are going to write on the folder, use a permanent marker and make sure the ink is completely dry before you close the flaps or start to stack them. Some inks will take longer to dry since the surface is a little slick. The only complaint I can make is that the ink does tend to scratch off if the folder is slid in and out of a stack or backpack but it only takes a few seconds to touch it up. Another great feature is that these are opaque so you wont have to worry about sensitive material being in plain view but you can tell if the folder is empty or not. The black folder blocks out almost everything but as I said, you can still see if the folder contains any papers or if its empty.
Price
You can find that are most major office supply stores for about $1.25, a little less in some areas, a little more in others. So far Ive only seen them sold individually but if I came across a multi pack Im sure Id invest in them since they can be used for a variety of things. Are they worth it? To me they are and if you ask the brood, I am sure theyll agree. You arent getting some cheap paper folder here but on the same token you arent getting something that is going to repel bullets. For the price, you are getting something that will last about six month if used heavily, more if you arent as rough.
The Bottom Line
If you are sick of dealing with folders that fall apart, papers that slide out of the top or side then I highly suggest checking these out. You might balk at the price but I can almost guarantee that once you give them a try, price wont be a factor. If black isnt your color you can also pick these up in red, green and blue a great way to add some color to your filing system, presentations or to aid in organizing or prioritizing. So far I am impressed with how these have held up and hope that Avery will introduce some new colors and styles when they release their new product line.
