| Freak369's Full Review: Avery Wirebound 1-Subject Notebook w/College Rule ... |
Until a few months ago my knapsack was filled with small bits of paper, receipts, phone numbers, things to do lists and stray coupons. This made finding something [anything] a real chore and every time I had to dig through it I swore Id get organized so I could avoid the frustration. I was in the market for a small notebook but hated the ones with the metal spine at the top and didnt want a full sized notebook. Composition books [the black and white ones] were out of the question since these were not only too large but would take up too much space, not to mention that stiff front and back cover. The small 3 x 5 memo books were just too small, what can you possible fit on one of those pages? Thats when the madness ensued and the Twin Peaks music stared to play
. After walking up and down aisle in the school supply section at Wal-Mart I started to feel like Goldilocks this ones too small, this ones too big - then I saw the perfect sized notebook the Avery Dennison Single Subject Notebook. OK, thats a bit of an exaggeration but come on, were talking about notebooks here I need to have some kind of hook.
Consider this the middle child in the family of Avery notebooks. The compact size makes it great for keeping in the glove compartment, purse, gym bag or backpack without taking up too much precious space. The notebook is 7 3/4 x 5 and is protected by two thick manila colored covers. This is a single subject book so there arent any dividers or sections so if that is a feature you are looking for, this isnt the book for you. The metal spiral spine has crimped edges so they wont catch on clothing or skin and help to keep the removed splinters of paper from falling all over the place when you rip out a page. If I had to complain about one thing in regards to this notebook it would be that the pages arent perforated. This usually means that you are in for a small mess when you rip out a page regardless of how neatly you try to be. The information about the notebook [size, name, UPC code etc] is conveniently shoved towards the bottom of the front cover this means you can label them or my personal favorite layer it with freaky stickers from Hot Topic or Zarga.
The pages of this notebook are college ruled [also called narrow rules] so you get a smaller writing area but can fit more on each page than the standard rule notebooks. The pages have no margins or footers so make sure that this is something that you will feel comfortable using and that it will suit your needs. The paper is light green and is referred to as Eye-Ease on the front of the notebook. Ive only had this for a few months but I can say that the color of the paper does make a difference. I use this mostly to make notes about the boys school projects, when we do field trips and gas mileage however I have an extra one under the drivers seat of my vehicle with the service record packet and AAA information. I found this to be the perfect size to keep tucked under the seat and use it often mostly to staple receipts to or in case I need to ask the dealer a question [thats the automotive dealer Im talking about folks].
Things To Know
If you are going to try and hunt this down, here is some information to know since the generic photo used above doesnt reflect what the notebook really looks like. The reorder number for this is 33-002 this is the easiest way to find this when looking for it at an office supply store. When in doubt make sure you look for the following phrase on the cover - Narrow Ruled Eye-Easy Paper Single Subject Notebook. Ive found these at Wal-Mart as well as at Office Depot but Id venture to say that most stores that carry Avery products would have this in stock. I picked this up for $1.79 which is a bit steep for a notebook this size but the lines are college ruled so you have more room for your information than the standard ruled notebooks.
The pages are the same thickness as loose-leaf paper or pages from standard sized notebook - thick enough to handle the ink from most ballpoint and roller ball pens but too thin for markers. Since there arent any margins on the sides or bottom you can get the most out of the pages without having it look like a complete mess. The notebooks have eighty pages to them and while that sounds like a lot, you will go through them quickly if you are trying to get organized or have a ton of information to transfer from small bits of paper. There are twenty-seven lines on each page plus a 3/4 inch break at the top and the pages are lined front and back.
The Bottom Line
I wouldnt suggest these for educational purposes unless you dont expect to be taking a lot of notes. While the pages are college ruled without margins, they do fill up quickly. Younger kids probably wont like the smaller lines of this notebook but for adults or teens this is a great way to get organized, keep track of expenses or simply eliminate tons of loose notes. While I originally balked at the price of this notebook, its proven that its worth its weight in gold to me over the past few months.
As always, thanks for the visit!
