The minute your kicks start to look sick, and your heels begin to see that telltale angle, its time to get more shoes. Getting a deal on a good pair of tennis shoes is a small victory especially if you are an athletic individual. Avias reputation in the tennis shoe industry is built on reasonable prices and comfortable stability shoes that offer decent cushioning.
I found the Avia Men's Cross-Training Shoes 156 at Famous Footwear. Avias 156 follows the manufactures standard cushioned formula with the comfort padded tongue and cantilever rubber cup sole. Its this formula that mixed with the sponge rubber sock liner that add the midfoot support needed for a game of racquet ball or simply jogging around the indoor track. Although this company does not get as much notoriety as Nike or Reebok, Avia developed the cantilever design years ago; today nearly every other shoe manufacturer copies this technology.
While wearing this shoe it felt cushiony, and flexible, with a solid rearfoot and a surprisingly smooth heel-to-toe transition. Perhaps its the EVA wedge and the cantilever design in the heel that adds the extra stability. If cushioning is you most important concern, this is a fine choice at a good price. If you are a gym rat, youll be drawn to the Avia 156 because it is an all around shoe. These shoes are great for weight training, aerobics and casual everyday wear. This straightforward tennis shoe caters to the needs of the beginner as well as the experienced.
The Avia 156 is comfortable leather shoe thats easy to lace up. Initially shoes uppers seemed a little stiff at first but eventually formed to fit providing good support. These herringbone-treaded rubber outsoles offer tremendous traction giving you the ability to stop and go when engaged in a workout or activity. Side to side, up and back pivoting is seamless. Sure-footedness is a good thing when engaged in a quick pick up game of table tennis or walking. I was impressed with the ease with which I was able to get off the mark or come to a sudden stop. There are no issues with arch support the Avia 156 have a medium arch, which offers adequate support for my feet.
The white full-grain leather uppers are not the flashiest, but they match almost everything Ive got in the closet. The Avia 156 is easy clean and wipe up quickly with a cloth and a little soap and water. Give the shoe a once over with a damp cloth and theyll look clean without the time and commitment of breaking out the white shoe polish. Avia warns against washing their shoes in a washing machine or putting them in the dryer.
I wear size 11 and half, in the Avia 156, which is a half size larger than what Im accustomed to wearing. The Avia 156 durability is average and varies depending upon your sporting activities. Mine will probably have a life expectancy of 3 to 6 months. There are no problems noted with the weight of the shoe. Avia seems to have really nailed the weight/performance relationship with these shoes. They were light enough, yet heavy enough to remain stable during quick directional changes.
The Avia 156 lives up to the companys technology with impressive cushioning and stability in a relatively inexpensive shoe. On the downside, you are going to have to shop around for these shoes I bought them off of the clearance rack and used a $5.00 coupon.
