Aromatherapy for the Masses

Written: May 03 '01
Pros:inexpensive, smells great
Cons:want a bigger bottle
The Bottom Line: Lavender is such a pleasing, calming scent and this body lotion has the perfect amount of lavender scent in it.

I guess it’s the girlie girl in me, but I love scented body lotions. Many times I’ll use scented body lotions instead of perfume, particularly in the summer months. My skin stays soft and flake-free, and I smell yummy. The downside is that I tend to attract bees. Oh, well.

Avon’s Calming Lavender Body Lotion is one of my favorites. The lavender smell is delicious. Strong enough to announce its presence, but not so overwhelming that people walk a wide radius around you. I think lavender and lilac are probably the two most popular scents because they soothe and calm our senses. Scientists have proven that aromatherapy works. Citrus scents will invigorate and rejuvenate you; conversely, scents like lavender and bergamot will relax you. I have always associated lavender with femininity, softness, and calmness. I guess that’s why I’m attracted to it, and I’m glad that I discovered Avon’s Calming Lavender Body Lotion.

Avon’s products are inexpensive and they work. I just can’t see spending $20 on Crabtree & Evelyn’s Lavender Body Lotion when I can get Avon’s lotion for $6. Avon has quality products (but as I wrote in an earlier review they need to do some more work on their bubble bath formula), and that is why I keep coming back to them.

This body lotion feels silky and is not greasy. It is meant for women with good skin to start with—if your skin is excessively dry you will need something much stronger than this product. Yes, it moisturizes, but it isn’t meant to treat severely dry skin. Slather it on after your bath or shower. It absorbs quickly so there’s no need to wait before you get dressed.

Believe it or not, lavender is also good for tension headaches. Sometimes I’ll rub a little on my temples to help ease the pain. Since the scent is a relaxant, it’s only logical that it can help calm a tension headache that is caused by stress. Try it for yourself.

I can honestly recommend Avon’s Calming Lavender Body Lotion as a great product. The scent alone brings me back for more again and again. It’s a quality product at a fantastic price.
