At 32 ½ I decided it was time to start considering the future of my facial skin & overall facial appearance. I currently do not really have any wrinkles or fine lines but I’m starting to realize that that day is approaching. So I’m on the hunt for skin care products that will protect my face from the elements all around us & from aging in general.
About a month ago I purchased Avon’s Eye Block Environmental Protection Cream. It retails for about $9.50 but I bought mine on ebay so paid about $6.50 including shipping. I purchased this product for several reasons & I’ll discuss Avon’s claims & my experiences here:
- Most important to me, this eye cream not only contains SPF 15 but also contains Parasol 1789 (trademark) giving you protection from both UVA & UVB sunrays. You’d be surprised to learn that, if a product says it has SPF 15 (or 30 or whatever) & doesn’t specifically claim protection from both forms of rays, you will not get protection from both UVA & UVB rays and both forms are damaging to our skin. I feel confident wearing Avon’s Eye Block in that the area under my eyes is fully protected from the sun.
- It moisturizes the undereye area. This is a light, non-greasy cream & it does feel good when applying. It’s not heavy & no eye cream should be. Avon says this product is “suitable for all skin types” so - oily, dry, whatever - you can use this cream for moisturization.
- “Contains a patent-pending blend of antioxidants to neutralize free radicals found in tobacco smoke, pollution and smog.” I don’t even know what that means! I guess I can infer that there’s a lot of bad stuff (chemicals?) in the air that settles on my skin. This eye cream somehow protects my skin from those pollutants. Well, I’ll have to take their word for it because I simply have no clue whether the product lives up to this claim or not. I did want you to be aware of their claim though.
- The packaging also claims that Eye Block minimizes puffiness under the eyes. I have not noticed any difference in my undereye area so I take issue with this claim.
- Since this product has been tested by both dermatologists & ophthalmologists I feel comfortable smearing it under my eyes. When you think about it, though, it says it was “tested” but doesn’t say the doctors approved of it! Hmm. Avon also makes the claim that Eye Block is hypoallergenic & will not clog pores. I have not had any adverse reactions after applying it to my skin.
- A little goes a long way with this cream. Eye Block comes in a small .5 fluid ounce (15 mil) tube but I have barely put a dent in mine since I started using it about a month ago. (I use it once a day in the AM.).
I recommend Avon’s Eye Block simply because it protects the undereye area from both UVA & UVB sunrays. Yes, it does moisturize, but I feel any light, non-greasy facial moisturizer could also do that trick at a substantially more reasonable price if that’s all you’re really looking for. As for the environmental effects I just don’t know since I’m not a skin care professional or anything. And this is certainly not a product for those who already have wrinkles & lines since it makes no claims to “reduce” the signs of aging so look elsewhere if that’s what you are looking for.
