Mininut's Full Review: Avon Glimmersticks Waterproof Eye Liner
I am not a huge make-up wearer but when I started selling Avon I decided to start wearing more make-up so that I could honestly answer customer questions with my own experiences. I decided to try out the waterproof Glimmer sticks because I love the colors and I am always in or around water and I hate my liners to run!
About the Glimmer sticks Water Proof Eye Liners
Every summer Avon brings out the Glimmer sticks waterproof eyeliners and offers them at fantastic prices to the public. These liners were offered in Campaign 14 for a wonderful price of $3.49 each, regular price is $5.00 each. With the introduction of 2 new shades this summer there are now 10 shades to choose from. Each liner contains the following ingredients Cyclomethicone, Paraffin, Diisostearyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Peg-6 Beeswax, Ozokerite, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ceresin, Tocopherol, Retinyl Palmitate, and Ascorbyl Palmitate. Liner may contain Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Ferric Ferrocyanide, Mica, Carmine, Ultramarines, and Chromium Oxide Greens.
You can choose from the following colors: Black Raincoat, Bronze wave, Chocolate Splash, Harbour Grey, Sea Green, Platinum Wave, Violet Mist, Deep sea blue and the 2 newest shades of Caribbean Blue and Sun Shimmer. Each liner is in a retractable case so you won’t need to pull out your sharpener for these liners.
About the colors
Each shade wears a little differently on me (please note that each skin type is different and these liners may wear better on other people than they did on me.) so I decided to give you a run down on how each one favored on my skin type.
Black Raincoat: this particular line has a beautiful tint to it. It is not a deep dark black like a standard liner and goes on more of a dark grey on me. I have a light complexion but a person with a darker complexion may want to avoid this shade because the color is likely to not show up very well on them.
Bronze Wave: this is one of my more favorite colors, this shade shows up well on me but does not go on very dark. Again I would not recommend this shade for a darker skinned person.
Chocolate Splash: this shade is a little darker on me and does go one fairly dark with out having to constantly draw line over line on your eye (layering). This color does accent brown eyes very well.
Harbor Grey: this is a very pretty color and a high seller. The color goes on light and you will have to layer the liner a few times to get the darker effect but all in all this is a nice color. Again, I do not recommend this line for really dark skin colors.
Sea Green this is a lighter green that can be applied darker by layering the color. This particular color looks great with blue or green eyes and hazel as well.
Platinum Wave I love this color but since it is white and I am fair skinned it does not show up on me at all. This is a gorgeous white liner with a little sparkle to it and I have seen it on women with dark complexions and they looked FABULOUS!
Violet Mist this is a great color that looks good on any skin tone, the violet goes on kind of light but it has a great effect at bringing more attention to a persons eyes.
Deep Sea Blue this color goes on dark with one layer and looks great on all skin types. It is not a deep dark blue but has a light enough pigment to accent the eyes with out making them look sunken and it is one of the few Glimmer sticks that did not pull or tug when I put it on.
Caribbean blue this shade is a blue green color and really highlights blue eyes. It is a light shade but layered over it will look great on a darker complexion.
Sun Shimmer my all time favorite is this golden yellow liner that really accents blue eyes. You will have to apply several layers to get this liner to appear if you have lighter skin and it may not be worth the trouble for some people. This shade also looks fabulous on dark complexions and it is really a shade that you cannot go wrong with.
What I think about the Glimmer sticks Water proof liners
I live in or around water pretty much all year round so I wanted a liner that I could wear that would withstand being splashed in the pool and withstand the sweat I work up when I stand out in the 100 + degree weather here in Texas. I purchased every shade of the glimmer stick so that I could try each one and compare them on my complexion to my friend who has a much darker complexion. I am not thrilled about how most colors have to be layered over and over for them to even appear on my skin and neither was my friend Pam. Of course we had the same problem but with different colors being that her complexion is much darker than mine she had to layer the darker colors and I had to layer the lighter ones. On my first day of wear I choose the Deep Sea blue and within 3 hours the liner was completely gone. Traveling from store to store getting my shopping done I somehow managed to loose all of my liner. The next day I decided on the Bronze Wave and again within 3 hours I had to re apply my liner. I had a little better luck with the Black and the Violet mist; both of those wore for about 5 to 6 hours before fading into nothing. All in all every shade I tried would only last an average of 4 hours on my skin. Pam however, had better luck and was able to wear hers an average of 6 to 8 hours a day. I have oily skin and Pam has dry skin so that could possibly be the reasoning of the wear. I also did not like how this liner pulls when I try to apply it, I feel like I am ripping my lids off.
In closing
Although the sale price of $3.49 is a wonderful deal these liners generally run for $5.00 and they are only available in the summer months. Come Campaign 19 they will not be available till next year. Some people have much better luck with the Glimmer sticks and they swear by them but I am not recommending these liners because the wear was not acceptable to me and neither was the application of the liner. If your liner has to be layered thick to make it appear then you are going to run out of liner quick, also if you have to keep reapplying liner because of wear off then you again are going to run out of liner quickly so your $5.00 each is going to start adding up. Although the colors are outstanding on the Glimmer sticks, Avon does offer another waterproof liner that is available all year round. Perfect Wear Eye Liner is water proof and goes on smooth so you have no pulling or tugging. The colors for the perfect wear are not as bright and captivating as the summer colors on the glimmer sticks are but you will get great wear with out the wear out on the Perfect Wear Liner.
