jo.com's Full Review: Avon Moisture Therapy Body Lotion
If you have read other reviews of mine you know I dont, in general care for Avons products. I have a face masque not listed here, which is awful. I didnt buy Avon Moisture Therapy Body Lotion. One of my daughters co-workers sells Avon and my daughter bought this for me as a Mothers Day present because she knows I use a lot of moisturizer and lotions.
I will tell you about the product, its claims and then what I think of it.
The product and claims:
1. This product comes in a plastic bottle and is 13.5 ounces. I dont particularly care for the flip top opening only because it cant easily be transported without fear of it flipping open and spilling out of the bottle.
2. They trademark their Hydroprotective Factors which they say work with a unique moisturizing lipid complex to help attract, bind and seal in moisture. They claim that Avon Moisture Therapy helps skin maintain its natural moisture level.
3. We are told that microscopic liposomes carry soothing ingredients where they are needed most.
4. It heals and protects dry skin, relieves itching, redness and roughness. It helps prevent and temporarily protects against chapped, cracked or windburned skin.
5. It is suitable for sensitive skin. It is hospital and dermatologist tested.
6. You should use this liberally and all over your body as often as necessary.
This product is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and if your condition worsens or doesnt improve within 7 days, consult a doctor. Dont apply over deep wounds or infected areas. Keep this product out of reach of children
I am not a scientist but it seems to me when there are this many ingredients in a product most of which I cant pronounce and haven't a clue as to what they do perhaps rubbing them into my skin isn't the best idea!
More and more as I review products I find myself buying items at the health food store where I feel I know what is in the product. If it doesn't matter to you if you can pronounce the ingredients, this product isnt too bad. Compared to another review I did on an Avon moisturizer, this one is great.
What I think of it?
1. As I said I dont care for the flip top cap and it is too large to throw in my pocket book. It is fine to keep on your desk, though, and apply during the day. It is best used, in my opinion at night.
2. Not too unlike my other review, (Avon Moisture Therapy Hand Cream) this product is slightly sticky, (as opposed to extremely sticky) but not so sticky it cant be used. I do notice that after applying it to my hands, I cant turn the pages of a magazine too easily! I like it more for my legs than anything else. It doesnt have any sunscreen in it so I wouldnt be applying it anywhere during the day that is exposed to the sun.
3. It goes on easily. I like that it absorbs well without having to rub it in and my skin does feel soft and smooth after using it. However, it also leaves a slight drying feeling especially on my hands, which is why I am recommending this as a body (leg) lotion more than anything else.
4. It is a thick lotion, with a slightly creamy color. I dont like the color! That may make no sense, but I like white lotions or ones with color. Cream color just doesnt appeal to me, but thats my preference only. It has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the product.
5. I find it interesting that Avon Moisture Lotion contains fragrance. I noted the smell of it before I read the ingredients. I thought there might not be added fragrance because it does not smell nice. It has a medicinal smell, which is not terribly strong, once it is on, but strong enough to not be pleasant.
The company:
According to their website Avon is the largest corporate supporter of the breast cancer cause in the U.S. For more information about this or their products the website is www.avon.com.
Animal testing has come up in many reviews. Avon was the first beauty company to stop testing their ingredients and final product on animals.
In summary do I recommend this product or not? I do with some caveats. If you want a good moisturizer for very dry skin and you are using it before bed or under pants, then I would recommend this product and give it 4 stars. If you are looking for a moisturizer for all over your body including your hands, I would not recommend it because it is slightly sticky, it does not smell nice and contains no sunscreen. I reviewed Cliniques deep comfort body moisture, which I highly recommend in spite of it containing ingredients I cant pronounce. But it smells and feels nice. I cant say this about the Avon Moisture Lotion.
I am rating it 2 stars because I would never buy this product and cant recommend it. There are too many others on the market that are just as effective but smell and feel better.
