Avon Naturals – Gardenia Hand Cream – Wow, it blew me away!
Written: Apr 24 '08
Pros:Great lotion, not water, moisturized well.
Cons:Scent was super strong!
The Bottom Line: This is a great lotion, if you don't mind strong, flowery scents!
Let me preface this by saying the lotion did not blow me away due to the way it took care of my dry hands. Rather, the lotion blew me away because it has such an overwhelmingly strong scent. I was shocked by how strong it was! I usually like lightly scented lotions, bath washes, etc.
The Product
This product is a hand lotion made by Avon and it is in their Naturals line. This is a hand cream and I came across this when they had a sale in their catalogue and thought other Naturals smelled nice, normal and delightful plus they did an ok job at moisturizing my skin. I thought this would not be any different (except the scent).
The moisturizer is a thicker cream and it is white in color. It reminds me of the Avon Moisture Therapy line since it is not a watered down lotion and it is thick and rubs into the skin very quickly. But, I find that I cannot use much of this lotion at one time. I cannot rub much of this lotion into my skin, as the scent is just overwhelmingly strong. The lotion does last through one or two hand washing sessions. I notice even the scent lasts (lightly) through hand washings, which really surprises me. Normally, you wash your hands once and a lotion is not protecting your skin any longer and needs to be re-applied. But, this lotion seems to last longer than others and the lingering scent on my skin proves that it is still there! I do like the scent as it smells very much like gardenias. But, I would like just a small plant of gardenias not a whole field of them!
I tried to use this lotion on my legs to help keep the strong scent away from my nose. I do not like the heavy scent and I still wanted to use my lotion and I thought using this on my legs would not to overpower me when I was wearing it. But, even just on my legs, covered by denim or slacks, I found that I would be overcome by the scent when sitting down. The scent permeated through the pants and I could smell it just as strong as if I put this on my hands and arms!
The lotion is fairly nice in that it does not feel greasy when using it, even immediately after applying it to my hands or legs. I dont feel that I have to take a towel to dab off the excess lotion after applying it. It all absorbs quickly into my skin, nourishing it with wonderful moisture and making them feel nice. The lotion feels light, even though it is a thick lotion when it comes out of the tube, if that makes any sense! Its a thick lotion but when rubbing it into your skin, it does not feel like you are rubbing in lard or grease into your skin.
Avon does state on the bottle that it does NOT do animal testing!
The Ingredients
Water, glyceryl, stearate, cetyl alcohol, dimethicone, mineral oil, parfum/fragrance, imidazolidinyl, urea, sodium lauryl sulfate, disodium edta, methylparaben
If you do some research on this lotion online, you will find that it is said that this lotion has natural plant extracts, but you never see or hear what kind of extracts. They do also say that is has the benefit of apricot kernel oil that is purported to help all skin types. The bottle does not state any of this at all, though.
Overall Impressions
While I enjoy the properties of the lotion (thick, light, rubs in quickly), I do not like the scent. It is too powerful for me to wear and I had to give away the last of my tube of lotion to someone else to use. The scent smelled lovely, like gardenias, but there were just too many gardenias in too small of a space and the smell of them knocked me over and would give me an almost instantaneous headache from the scent.
As far as the lotion itself, it absorbed quickly into my skin and did seem to protect my hands very well removing the dryness and protecting them even through hand washings here at work with the harsh, stripping commercial hand soap that is used in the bathrooms in my building at work. After a hand washing, I could handle the light, lingering scent of the gardenias left on my skin. Too bad it was so overpowering that it knocked me over when using it!
If you dont mind a strong, flowery scent and like a good lotion to protect your skin, this is a good product. Normally, I have only found these in the purse or travel sized containers with 1.5 ounces. This is a perfect size to carry in your pocket or purse or to keep at your desk! And, Avon usually has a terrific sale many times throughout the year. So, watch for the sale, try one, and next time they are on sale, stock up if you like it!
~Thanks for spending time with me today!~
