Pros: Keeps cuticles in good shape
Cons: Don't rub your eyes/bite your nails after applying; can't use with fake nails
The Bottom Line: Use to help your cuticles but not to solve problems entirely.

I don't know about anyone else, but for me, winter is horrible for my hands. My cuticles, especially, get dried and sharp and rough and icky-looking, which makes me pick at them, which leads to tearing the skin and bleeding and all sorts of yucky stuff. But I've kept that pretty much at bay for the past two years by using Avon Mira-Cuticle Vanishing Complex.
Vanishing Complex is a bit of a misnomer. This cream does not remove cuticles or make them otherwise disappear, but it does help keep the cuticles in good shape instead of turning into hangnails or becoming overgrown. To use, simply apply a dot from the thin-nozzled tube on each fingernail at the cuticle and rub around the cuticle until it's all absorbed. The directions recommend using it twice a day at first, then one a day thereafter to keep cuticles in good shape.
I've found using Avon Mira-Cuticle Vanishing Complex once a day helps keep my cuticles looking neat, healthy, and moisturized. The scent is mild and slightly acid-y (like a lot of other products with an Alpha Hydroxy compound) but doesn't trigger allergic reactions for me. It stings a bit (only briefly) if you put it on a torn cuticle or hangnail. A male friend of mine whose cuticles always looked torn-up took my suggestion of using this cream and he's been able to avoid going to a manicurist (which seems to be, for some men, a fate worse than death). As an added bonus, my nails seem to grow longer and last longer when I use this cream regularly.
BUT (and there's always a BUT, isn't there?) - Avon Mira-Cuticle Vanishing Complex does not take care of my cuticles to the point where I can ditch my cuticle remover cream, nail brush, and metal cuticle trimmers. I can go longer between times, but I still have to do the Cuticle Sub-Section of my Bi-Weekly Manicure Routine to trim and neaten up my fingers.
Other BUTs include the warnings on the label: "Keep Out of Eyes" and "Not for Use with Artificial Nails." That keep-out-of-eyes stuff is serious. Don't rub your eye or put your finger anywhere near your eye after putting this stuff on - the Alpha Hydroxy compound burns if it comes in contact with your eye or the area immediately around it. You definitely don't want to insert or remove contact lenses right after using Avon Mira-Cuticle Vanishing Complex unless you wash your hands thoroughly first. (For those of us who bite or chew on our nails while thinking, the taste of this stuff may help break that habit.) As to the other warning: I've never had artificial nails or nail wraps, but from what I've heard it's especially important for ladies who augment their nails artificially to keep their cuticles in good shape. Unfortunately, this is not for you.

This review is the sixteenth installment of "Around My House in 28 Days," my response to the challenge leveled by amykhar. The challenge is to post one review every day for the whole month of February. Well, at least it's a short month. I'm starting at my door and going counter-clockwise around the house, reviewing whatever's in sight (and on this site). So far it's been the bathroom, then the kitchen, then the living room, and now the bedroom...
